micron oval pipe

Hi all, I've decided to fit my set of Micron oval pipes to the red/ white 84, , what I would like to know is how to take the end caps off, as po had somehow split them around the outlets , if I can get them apart I can have welding done on the inside
unless you ride bikes, I mean really ride bikes, then you just won't get it

84 Fj1100  effie , with mods
( 88 ) Fj 1200  fairly standard , + blue spots
84 Fj1100 absolutely stock standard, now more stock , fitted with Fj12 twin system , no rusted headers for this felicity jayne

Rod,
Do they have rivets holding the caps onto the body of the muffler?  If so, you'll have to drill out the rivets.

Hi arnie, , that would of been too easy, no rivets at all , or springs that I can see, I know they come apart as when I bough them they come with replacement runners for. The ends

Well, with oval cans, they can't be threaded.  Maybe they are using a couple of pins on the inside of the caps.  You'd have to squeeze the sides of the can to set them free.

Ahhhh that just could be it, , as they do move a little in and out from the pipe itself

Thanks for your help arnie ,, no pins, but an Allen head bolt holds the whole lot together , easiest mufflers I've ever worked on, once I found out how,, pays to have a good look inside

de' Nada.  Yeah, learning how something is done can make a HUGE difference. :-)
At least you figured it out before taking a gas axe to it.

That is what I have done but was curious to know the answers from other individuals. I am sort of in the middle of Panama with not much to work with as far as tools go.  On a long motorcycle vacation.
