More Long Weekend

Time the lighten the tone around here.

While most of the world worked on Friday, I rode along here twice, once in each direction, 200k's of motor bike heaven each way. ( I didn't take the first 2 photos)

 



And went here



While riding some of the straighter sections I was trying to make a hypothetical case for a new bike.  I'd had hundreds of K's of peg scraping twisties, sustained high speed on some back roads, hours and hours without a break, I put in a 944 km day, the bike heavily loaded, bucket loads of power in reserve, overtaking anywhere I felt like it and when stopped, every time I approached it, it looked fantastic. I could think of very little that a new could do for me that the FJ hadn't done magnificently all weekend.

For the locals, I went coastal to SA (from Melbourne) via the Great Ocean Road, the Coorong and through the Adelaide hills to Birdwood, then came back the same way but with much better weather. 2500km's

Couldn't agree with you more, about the FJ.
After all, who wouldn't want a new bike, "0" miles from birth, to call your own, but there is nothing being built now that has the over all great looks of the FJ along with its long list of attributes.
Thankfully, I found a nice one, and I plan to hang on to it!

My first impression was it was the Cabot Trail on Cape Breton Island (Nova Scotia, Canada), which is a very similar costal ride. Infact, I just came back from riding the Cabot Trail about 8 or so weeks ago. The locals are very 'biker friendly' people and the food is out of this world, especially if you like FRESH seafood. I tell everyone, "you have to ride it to experience it"... 

Roll on next summer, as we are going back again...

Yeah, it may look like Nova Scotia (sorta) but even in the "depths" of winter it'll still be 10 or 12C and no snow or ice.
On a bad day, there will be a cold driving rain and homicidal tour busses and four wheel drives, and on a  really bad day the cops will be running traps checking only bikes for loud mufflers, and other 'dangerous' items and/or hiding in the trees (true story) with radar guns...

cops in trees, they do that here too, also hide behind overpass pilons, on blind corners , and on overpasses while the rest of the big blue gang wait up the road

Far too many people have absurd psychological blocks when it comes to travel, they think it's something other people do.
Travelling is easy.
Iowa to LAX or Dallas Fort Worth airport, get a cheap ticket for under $200.
LAX to Sydney round trip ticket,$1300-$1500
Someone here in Aus will lend you a bike and put you up.
All you'll then need is fuel and food money, be pretty easy to couch surf or stay at inexpensive lodgings.
You could easy do two weeks in Aus and only spend $3-4,000 including air tickets.
Be a good trip.
Hell, Fluffy and Mr Bean do it,Baldy and I come over to the U.S a lot, why don't you?

Arnie, there were pictures in the paper of them lying prone in the scrub on the edge of the road, in full cammo gear, with radar guns in the Yarra Ranges.

Talk about declaring war, they were even dressed for the part, they looked like full blown soldiers on a mission. Next thing they'll exchange the radar guns for real rifles to rid this State of the threat we motorcyclists pose to the good folks here who don't ride.

You're right about the hazards on the GOR, but as mostly a day trip road, traffic times are fairly predictable and if you pick your time it will see you with the road almost to yourself, even in Summer.
