Hello guys.
I am about to tackle the building of a towbar for my trusty steed.
What would be good is to see some FJ1100 photos with one fitted. There is a local FJ1200 here with a homemade job that is well done, but I think the top mounting
points are different. If anyone on this forum would be kind enough to share some knowledge and pics I would be most grateful.
Regards
Dave

I wouldn't trust those brackets to hold a trailer, they're just castings, not designed to be load bearing.

Thanks Rick. I am just using them to rough fit and I agree they wouldn't hold much.
There is a better mounting point a little forward of them that held the mufflers.
I think this is where the store bought bars are fitted. There is a metal sleeve in the space.

I have made another bracket that is pinned with 10mm stainless bolts and will weld them up later this week.

It might be worth some more investigation on issues like lateral strength of the towbar frame and whether the load will tend to lift the rear of the bike under heavy braking due to the location of the mounting.
I've often been asked, 'What do you old folks do now that you're retired'?

"Well. I'm fortunate to have a chemical engineering background, and one of the things I enjoy most is turning beer, wine, Scotch, and margaritas into urine."

You are right on the mark there.. I have decided to go with an engineered towbar from a supplier up north. It was an interesting excercise and I will turn what I have made into a support bar to be planted in the ground and hold up parked trailers
