QuoteAlso included are the color matching fairing side panels that fill the area between the upper fairing and the chin spoiler. These rare panels had to be purchased seperately (sic) from the dealer are almost never seen.

Has anyone ever seen a fairing like that before? I'm puzzled, since he says he got it from the dealer. :???

Not everyone understands what a completely rational process this maintenance of a motorcycle is. They think it's some kind of a knack or some kind of affinity for machines in operation. They are right, but the knack is almost purely a process of reason.

It is not a Factory fairing. The maker is Targa, radicated in CA, if I remember correctly. I bought them 24 years ago and fitted in my 1100. The fit & finish were excellent. These are 2 photos from then.

Watch at the 2nd one that the side panel close the sides of the bike with a grill similar to those on the upper fairing

Yamaha did not offer a stock larger lower fairing offer. The lowers that you see are made by Targa and Lockhart Phillips made a 3/4 lower.

Pictured is my first FJ that I owned from 1988 to 1990 with the Lockhart version.

In fairness, odds are that set was purchased at the dealer.  Same place that you'd buy an exhaust or the like.

I installed the Targa set on my Red/white FJ1100 about 10 years ago. I loved how it improved the look. :good2:
I'll try to dig up a photo of it. Unfortunately I lost a ton of old pictures when my stupid dog knocked our external (backup) hard drive onto the tile floor.

Smart fairing lower I will admit - thank gawd me bike wasn't wearing THAT when it was reversed into.  Kinda expensive bits of plastic methinks - and no place for fitting the Renntec crash bars.

So, not a good idea in my opinion.

And with that in mind....I'm out. (As they say in Dragons Den)

Is this the same fairing from another angle, or yet another aftermarket fairing?

I've been told that the larger fairing was available in Canada as a dealer option.
Could even get appropriate FJ decals for it.
Don't know if it's the truth, but thats what I've been told

No, its not. The Targa were only the side covers. I´m going to look for another photo and scan it...

I've seen that bike before!!,,,,, but where was it,,,,, oh yeah, in my garage. That's my bike and the lower is fiberglass. I think it is by Lockhart (but not sure, no markings). It came with the bike when I bought it last year.

I still like the lower fairing,  sets them off,  , if i remember correctly your duct tail was filled in or something to give it that wicked look, thinking i should do that to the one on effie,,
