I'm not sure what the flasher unit does and I haven't checked, but I assume it handles the blinkers?

Not grounding the coils can cause all kinds of problems, to my understanding. Don't do that. Why do you ask? Thinking that might be what fried yours?

Yes and I cant find  a cdi, Yamaha asks up to R 8000 (about $800) for a new one. I am thinking of getting the dyna 2000 system from ebay, is it good?

Some people here use it, but I've heard some who don't like it. It'll work, though.
