Yamaha puts a key code on the ignition switch, a Yamaha dealer or some locksmiths can make a key from this code. When I worked in a Yamaha dealer ship it was about  $10.00 to make a key. Hope this helps.

To be read in a very patronising, condescending parent like tone "now son what have you learnt from this experience"  :empathy3: "to look after my stuff better and always leave things in a safe place"  :sorry:

I tend to leave my Keys in my Motor cycle jacket pocket which is hung on the side of the wardrobe.  Although my normal keys i ALWAYS leave in my shoes, that way when running 20 mins late flying round the house shouting 'wheres my keys, keys, keys wheres my feckin keys' (coz shouting at them is scientifically proven to make them appear as we all know) you then try to save a few seconds by puting on your shoes to get ready to go once you have found the lost item and voila!

A life has been well lived, if you have planted trees under who's shade you do not expect to sit.

I'm told I'm cynical, pessimistic and generally miserable. I say that I'm realistic! The fact that reality sucks is not my fault!

So I took my ignition switch into our locksmith and they said the numbers on the bottom were not the code. They said they could take it apart and figure it out for like 22 bucks. I am nervous as to whether it will work for my seat and gas tank tho.

$22 is a good deal, the key has pins on both sides. Just make sure they know to fit the key to the lock because it needs to fit your seat and cap lock. Ask them to throw in an extra key for as well.
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

Before you re-install that key switch write down any numbers that are on in. Key code should have a letter then five numbers after that. Some times it is on the side of the switch on a piece of tape. Look for the imprint of the numbers, tape is black like switch. Hope this helps.
