89 fj speedo reads way high.

I thought that 52ft 9.5in was a strange number, until I realized that it was 1/100 of a mile. :-)
So, they spin the cable at that rpm and set 100mph on the dial.  Great work.

Got my speedometer back from Foriegn Speedo in San Diego and this is the scoop.  Odometer and speedometer are fed by the same cable,as you know.  So not only is one's speedo off but the odometer as well.  Both are set by the # of speedometer cable turns. Yamaha's stock number is 2240.  When I measured the # of turns, according to the 59 ft  9 1/2 in. they gave me, I came up with 2380. That is a difference of 5.88 %.  So I had them adjust my odometer as well- went from 36,318 mi. to 34,182 mi. All for a cost of $80.
