Im soon about to start a new chop project using a beyond repair FJ1200. The engine i believe is ok,as is the wiring harness,the rest can be sold on to help fellow fj'ers keep their bikes on the road hopefully.
Once I start the project,i'll post in the correct section,but as for now a taster,to see what you think?

Mock up pics.

I hope nobody is too upset im using an FJ. :biggrin:

fj11.5

at least your using a real engine mate  :good2: :good2:, your not alone in the Fj chop world , has been a couple of others on here, one had some awesome engineering done , wicked rear wheel,  what size 8"
unless you ride bikes, I mean really ride bikes, then you just won't get it

84 Fj1100  effie , with mods
( 88 ) Fj 1200  fairly standard , + blue spots
84 Fj1100 absolutely stock standard, now more stock , fitted with Fj12 twin system , no rusted headers for this felicity jayne

Save room for a jack shaft....you're gonna need it with that big meatball. Kudos! Keep posting  :good2:

Thanks for comments.
The wheel,presently is an 8 inch wide one,but i have a spare 10 incher and some 300 rubber.
Jackshaft???  :negative: LOL,im going to make a one off offset sprocket to move the chain out to clear the wheel.
Over here in the UK,FJ's are pretty popular for chops. For some reason,a second hand FJ only costs a fraction of what youd pay for a GS/Z GSXR here,because,dare i say it,they are seen as "old man touring bikes".lol. Which to me means bikes that have been normally well looked after and serviced. Ive a few engines in the workshop,but the FJ is a sure favourite!
One of my good friends uses FJ engines for his bikes when he's not making mad car engined things,and is presently working on 2 FJ chops,one turbo'd and one fitted with a weber 40 carb.
If anybody is interested,he has a blog which can be found at
http://fumesngears.blogspot.co.uk/

He hasnt posted any pics on the blog of his turbo project,but i have a few.

If you have seen his blog,Robbie built an NSU (small 1960/70's european car)engined chop,with an Eaton supercharger with top fuel pulleys and belt etc. Well,im pleased to report,the supercharger and bits are now all mine! :good2: Ultimately,id love a supercharged FJ1200.
The only problem is,with the frame in going to use,no way will the charger fit in the space allowed. :dash2:
Here it is not fitting into the space on another chop im busy building at the moment.

It wont fit!

Incidentally as well,Im going to use a 2inch SU carb from an old Jag or similar for my FJ chop. I think they look so much more cool than a bank of 4 carbs (on a chop at least).

Because the frame has so little ground clearance,im planning on chopping the rear axle plates out and making some "drag style" items to replace them.

My idea;

They will be made in alloy of course,not paper. To end up something like this;

Again due to lack of clearance under the frame,im going to make a set of headers like a Mr Turbo style thing,running up the side of the engine (as if going to a turbo)with a stumpy exhaust can.
Ive made a start,all the welds will be ground off and the pipes polished or bead blasted (undecided?). They are made from stainless steel.
Not very pretty yet,but they ,i hope will fit the style i want and look ok when done?

Pipes under construction.

Today i bought myself another FJ1200,this ones a 3CV,so it looks like a good donor for the chop project,for when i make a proper start.
It came with krauser hard luggage,so i might be able to recoup some of the cost by selling them on? I hope so! I havent any pics though. Sorry.
