With ref to the rims:
The front's an Fj 1200 '89 (hence speedo still drives off the wheel) (well observed)
The rear's a YZF 600 (year unknown)(came to me from "modifiers anonymous": those mystery persons somehow connected to this forum who have occasional cool giveaways)

Luck has it, they are the same design (perhaps a lazy R and D fellow at Yamaha or the thought that it's a pretty cool wheel design anyway so lets keep it in the catalogue).

Reports on my first and somewhat careful ride out on the new michelin road pilots are so far so good. She's solid and I didn't feel as if I was working hard to keep things pointing in the right direction.
Next outing I'll be a bit more positive and hence aware of differences where it counts.

I'll probably write a summary for the mods files, so people can replicate should the desire take a hold.

This is my conversion:

(Ignore the first 5 pics.)

My wheel is from a GSXR1100 ('92).

http://fiche.ronayers.com/Index.cfm/Module/Main/TypeID/26/Type/Motorcycle/MakeID/2/Make/Suzuki/YearID/33/Year/1992/ModelID/6211/Model/GSX-R1100/GroupID/252471/Group/REAR_WHEEL

The disk was still on the wheel.

Other parts are from a GSXR750 - brake bracket, sprocket, spacers, and the brake itself from a GSX750F.

Two large washers each side.

Do like the GSXR caliper.
What size rear tyre did you decide on?

I went for a 170 x 60 tyre.
180 x 55 will fit, but the 170 is actually a little taller.
Also fitted a 40-tooth Suzuki sprocket.

Looks like we have the same tire, but very different gearing. I ended up putting an 18 on the front to give a bit more swingarm clearance and a 46 on the rear.
Not really tested it thoroughly, but it's on the lively side.

What do you want to do with your life? I wanna rock!!!

andyoutandabout

Nice to hear from you John. Your bits and pieces have found a very functional and happy home as you can see on the vid.
Hope all is well up North and that you're well on the way to funding a new bike project. As you know, there are many riders who make it their life's quest to scan all sources for Fj sales and post them on the forum. There's one out there for you somewhere. Keep squirreling away those pennies and all will turn out fine.
Check out Marsh's new rally site - he' done another stand up job with that. The west coaster is but months away - be awesome if you could make it. However, I forecast it'll be equally great in 2011 and probably marvelous in 2012, so plenty of time really.
