Oil Light & how much???

Hey Guy's,

I'm still new in here and have a question about oil levels.
I've had my 1100 for a year now and love it more and more every time I ride it.
It's become my everyday bike and is the most reliable bike I've owned so far.

As said above, I ride it near on everyday and the only thing I've had to do with it is add fuel and oil.
I understand they do burn small amounts of oil.

My question is only, when the oil light starts coming on.
How much oil is left or how much oil should I add(I don't own a service manual).

Small top ups of 2-300ml keep the light off for a week or two depending on how many Km's I do.
I'm just curios how much oil I can add once the light comes on and how low it is.

Also, members recommendations on new tyres, brand/size etc. Or should I just stick with stock stuff.
I live in a fairly remote part of Australia and any info is appreciated.

My 'low oil' light will start to come on under hard acceleration when it's a bit low, at that point I just add till it's at the top of the sight glass.  Not sure if there's a formula as to exactly how much to add when the light first comes on.

It might be a little remote but a lot of people would call Broome, - Paradise. I didn`t have ya on my rough ozzie list, cause i missed ya intro way back in 2010 and can see why ya been so quiet     -majic sunsets up there.
Be interesting ta know how many KLMs a week you average. I got 117000klms on FJ1 and it only used oil when I had a slow leak in the rocker cover gasket. The heat dispersed the oil so never really noticed it. Wifey picked up that it smelt a bit fumey now and then, so took a look and fixed it. I reckon I could of just kept topping it up like you forever - cause it wasn`t really a hasssel.- if I lived in Broome I would just keep on with what ya doing - the sunsets are more important.
Next wet season ya might check out the gear lever seal & rear sprocket seal as well. If plugs and exhaust are the wrong colour or there`s a white jetstream behind ya, - I`d just go fishin, so it got driven less - when it stops just call heaven - it`s only a local phone call.
For tyres up your way (Straight roads, heat, rough edges, a bit of red dirt) I`d stay stock and would run with Pirelli - mainly because of their construction, all round performance and availability.

hey mate, broome what a brilliant place.

You don't say which oil you use but it sounds like you maybe using a semi or synthetic, try a 20/50 mineral.

With your daily temps, maybe one of the larger oil cooler modifications may help.

As for fuel usage my FJ does the same, I am always topping it up been trying to figure it out for years
I have kleptomania,
but when it gets bad,
I take something for it.

Bought it from a friend, who told me the only issue he had with it was topping it up with oil occasionally.
I ride it a lot more than he did (@150km p/w) and think it's not a real problem topping up every so often.

Hard acceleration makes the red light come on with this one also, when low.

Don't think it's an issue, was just curios how low it is when light comes on and don't want to overfill it.

And, Yeah we get some pretty speccy sunsets, but I'd trade them for some decent roads to ride (I grew up riding the Chain of Ponds etc,  in SA & open days at Mallala).

30'c, Blue Skies 9 months a year and no where to ride can be annoying (true).

That's why I've had a track bike built that lives in Melbourne, waiting for me to thrash it around Phillip Island as soon as I can get some time off from work.

Mate at a sprinkler place, would probably be somewhere/one I may know by face, not by name necessarily.
We have two surf/skate/moto shops here.

Thanks for all the replies, to a noob. Appreciated.
