This was from friday, from Janie, on Steve's status.  Just got it this morning:

Today (Thursday 8/6/09) Steve was visited by both Occupational and Physical therapists.  They adjusted his bed so he was sitting in an upright position with his right leg still elevated; his left was one the floor.  They adjusted his back and neck brace and talked to him about doing some isometric exercises while lying in bed.  They will come daily to work with him until Saturday's surgery.  They say he will need rehab once he is released by his doctors from the ICU next week.  They are going to check him for a possible brachial-plasty injury of the right shoulder region.  Don't ask what that is - but I think it has something to do with the sensations he's having in his hands.  His left arm, hand and leg seem to be healing nicely.  The right side of his body is their main concern at this point.  We will talk to the hospital "social services" to see if and when he can be transferred to Wake Medical in Raleigh for the rehab portion of his recovery (whenever that is).

I haven't clarified this with the doctor yet but the therapist were talking about the need for cervical surgery in upcoming weeks.  Not sure if this isn't exacerbation of an existing neck problem or if it's something new.  I need to get more information on this.

They took him down for more x-rays late this afternoon of the T-spine but no one has given me any results.

Steve was scheduled for an arteriogram today but somehow that got cancelled by mistake so that has been rescheduled for tomorrow.

He's enjoying muscle relaxers and morphine and sleeps about 90 percent of the day.

I'll keep you all updated as I know more.
Keep the prayers coming.  We have a long way to go.

long uphill battle ahead.  Anybody know if he's back in Raleigh yet, or still in Roanoke?
