whats that swingarm made of?

might need to sheet in the sides so the FJ dont twist it up like a pretzel!  :good2:

Looking good !

KOokaloo!

fjkid

it's 1 1/4 e-welded steel.

the eccentric blocks was my first mill job, i think i did ok.

still have some trellis bracing to do once the chain run is established

i have some flatslide cv pulled from a gsxr1100 race bike. i'm going to see if that will help fuel delivery with the big bore. (weisco fj1200 +3 on a fj1200 head)

also got the gears back cut when i split the cases. I'm doing carbon on the tank.

This bike started out as a kz650 in good shape with a bad motor and went down hill.

Found a crack in the frame of my fj1100 frame and misplaced the title, thought this was a good of a time as any.

with the shock, under belly, the 4-1 wouldn't work. Started to relocate.
eventually i'll do it again with bends instead of cuts and welds. i'm on a budget

budget as of now comes in at around $1260

Interesting. With the way #3 and 4 head  pipes are run, do you think it will be a tad warm on your left shin?

it will run across the subframe and go undertail.

plenty of room. My leg is slightly held up. It would be more heat when my feet are flat at a stop, but it will be wrapped with exhaust wrap

Could you get me more info on the carbs? Are they the BS38SS? (38mm throat) They look just like them.

How did you modify the GSXR carbs for the 77-85-77 spacing needed to fit the FJ engine?

Good eye. They are 38ss

I repaced them with a custom rack. It was fairly easy with these carbs, left carbs use one shaft that interlocks with the other behind the cam chain tunnel. I turned up a shaft extention and tigged it on/ smoothed it out. The carb openings needed a no-hub connector to work but it flows well.

Don't know how they will respond yet, but i'm pretty optimistic about them, If they are too much hassle i'll use the stocks

Good looking project. Here in the UK you can pick up an XJR for i suppose about the equivalent of about 2000 dollars, which can make them cheap muscle bikes, but i do like your take on things.
Its also good to see an FJ engine in a (English speak lol) zed650. Ive a good friend busy at the momemt building a Gpz11 engined kz650 framed thing, running a single car carb instead of the fuel injection.
I was myself doing a (K)z650 project a while back, but abandoned it when i realised i couldnt find the reg plate or the V5 (same docs as your pink slip),so shelved the idea. In the UK,companies such as Spondon/Harris racing etc exist, who build some amazing, but expensive frame kits. The frames normally use the engine as a stressed member, and run no lower frame rails. This is how i was modifying my kawasaki frame.
Heres a pic of the type of thing i mean.

I widened my kawasaki frame at the swingarm pivot point to take a kawasaki zxr750 (zx7r)swingarm,with bolt in drag extensions, and like i say, started, but never finished the frame mods.
Heres some unfinished pics.

If i had had the paperwork to make it worthwhile, this is the point where i would have braced all areas as needed and then chopped the bottom frame rails off.

I hope you dont mind my posting this,as I think we must think along similar lines?
It shows that both the FJ engine has an amount of versatility, and that you dont always have to put a kz engine into a Kawasaki frame!
Good luck with the build,i'll be watching with interest.

MDM i presume?

He's got a real looker of a zed.

i love the spondon style frames :D

Not MDM,but my mate Garry. Also my good friend Robbie is building a bike with wrap around tubes(Spondon style),fitted with an FJ motor and a turbo.

Keep up the good work,Im looking forward to see progress with this one. :good2:

plan on putting a turbo/boost of some sort eventually
