Here I sit, looking outside at the clouds roll in again, wishing to go for a ride. Drinking a cold one and the lightning is flashing. It's been almost three weeks since I have been on the FJ, starting to have withdrawal pains. Been nice just about all week and as soon as the weekend shows up there goes the weather again. Calling for up to 50 mill. of rain, that's around 4 freakin inches. It hasn't been a great week, the starter went in my logging truck and then had an airline let go.   So I think I am going to have a couple more and call it a day. Ray

Cheer up mate, 50mm is only 2 inches of rain, 25.4 mm to every inch... Just saying....

Hey Monkey,only problem is that we have gotten about6 inches of rain in the last week and a half. With all snow melt and rain combined we are having flooding and such. I am okay where I live High ground . Some rivers are almost up to historic levels(1948). Oh well just have to grin and bear it, oh and have another . Have a good weekend man. Ray

Hell, if you have good tires on it and the right gear, riding in the rain is tremendously enjoyable.

Yes, yes, yes. I love riding in the rain.
Í recently did a 600k day in the rain, it was pissing down when I left and the only thing that changed all day was the intensity and a brief encounter with falling snow ( a novelty down here)
My gear didn't last the day and I was fairly wet by the end of it, I wasn't wearing a rain suit, but what the hell, it was a great day.
Roaring log fires everywhere we stopped, empty roads, food and hot drinks never tasted so good or so well earned and a looooong hot shower at the end of it. Fantastic!
Steeling yourself against the elements at such close quarters is great fun.
The only rides I've ever cancelled due to the weather are when the temp's in the low 40's (110 F)
My gear is nothing flash but I do have heated grips and wear cheap waterproof overpants and jacket and oiling my boots keep them watertight.
The late model fairings with the "finned" screen also offer pretty good protection.

+1. I got a mate (Plankie - some here might know `im) that still raves about a great ride we did one Sunday mornin 3 years ago. I had rung him early beggin `im to come for a ride to Gympie. His answer was the bleak question "WHY"? My answer was a condescending "BECAUSE it`s Raining" - no better time to ride those deserted cool roads, enjoy hot coffee and really get ta know ya bike`s limitations. (and test ya touring gear for the next Rally). I find that if ya throw in a few reality words like "what`s up with ya"," "gettin old", or the ever reliable truth, "WHIMP!", usually get`s `em off their arse. (Note: don`t use the adjective "pussey" - cause that can send`em back ta bed.).   Incidently - it doesn`t snow here, nor In Northern NSW - and in March it doesn`t Snow anywhere between Melbourne and Bellingen. ( - just thinkin out loud)

I've had my fill of living in snow, and never want to see the stuff again (except on tv or in pictures etc)

Uhmmmm....... Sounds like Arnie & Noel are comin up ta Bellingen in march. There being 5 in victoria, I betta talk ta Harvy about tha best suggested Route. I reckon Euchuca then across to Thirroul, then Tamworth Via Sydney and tha Hunter Valley- no whimps in that neck of the woods.
Baldy let us down with not picken up tha U.S. Ashes. (AND he cost me a small fortune yesterday, raving on about tha great time he had - before i hung up the mobile at tha 45 minute mark).
But i got an idea CanDman & Axiom might represent the Global community more appropriateley.

I'll make my decision much closer to the time.  You should not presume or infer anything about my appearance (or not) from my comments about how much I dislike snow.
Thanks for your route suggestions, but I'm perfectly capable of setting my own route.  Were I to be traveling up to Bellingen on a motorcycle, I would not be going through Sydney.

Wow I saw a report on the news about the rains in B.C. washed out roads, flooded houses, cars pilled up, this is bad. I don't mined ridding in the rain it can be fun. Rode  down the million dollar highway in the worst rain spray bouncing above the head light. I don think I have driver a car in that heavy of a downpour. Very glad for new skins. I will never forget that. What a great trip rain, hail, heat, snow, cold, road construction, good times still beats working.

going to have short hour or so ride in the rain tomorrow, (saturday) , to clean and sort the carbs on an 89 fj , been sitting for just over 2 years, last attempt he had at starting it 8 months ago any movement of the throttle killed it, , so have a fresh can of carb cleaner, some thin wire for poking out old fuel, and patience, but the ol girl has an airbox, no drama to remove, but i bet the rubber boots are crispy

Wet, Windy & Freezing here on tha Sunshine Coast. Just spent a week on tha Gold Coast - Same. Just startin ta realise what it`d feel like on your island. The furthest South I got on the FJ was the Great Ocean Road in Vic, - talk about wind - Twas the only time I`ve been on a right hander while leaning left! (seriously!) 
I heard how good that Seafoam was for the stale Carbs some years ago but couldn`t get it into Oz. Got the formula somewhere in my files to make our own pretty easily - will see if I can dig it up. Let us know what cleaner your using if it works. Enjoy your play taday. (Hey, does that mean the Tassie contingent has grown by 50%?)

cant find seafoam on ebay either, $6.00 a can, local parts guy sells it,  wolfchester just a basic cleaner for stripped down carbs, has a pic of a rochester carb, and a viking on the label, strong stuff, and very flammable  , , bloody windy today, no rain as yet, but cooooold, ,  so no point swapping states with you for the winter then ..  now thats a breeze    , , riding my old gsx 750 years ago, heading up to a right hander and had to stop, blowing that hard i couldnt lean her over, could be because the 2" wide engine  acted like a sail, and i was flappin out the back like a windsock, 20kg lighter back then
