"Flapper" problem?

I went out on the slab today to try my new Conti Motions and everything was fine. Went about 25 miles, made a stop for 10 minutes or so and headed back home. About 18 miles into the return trip, the bike wouldn't develop any power (wouldn't rev) so I started looking for a place to pull over. I pulled in the clutch to downshift into 4th and the engine was not turning at all, let clutch out and bump started,,, still no revs.  Same through the lower gears.

Pulled over and took off my gloves and helmet and thought what the hell,,,, thumbed the starter and if fired right up.

Does this sound like the gas cap flapper?  I guess I need to start looking for the "flapectomy" thread.

That sounds like the classic symptom. Mine worked well up until I ran into a cold rain on a hot day with a full tank. I popped the cap for the rest of the trip. I closed it for the ride home and it stalled out again. I popped the cap while still riding and it cleared right up. It got gutted when I got home.

Mine had the same symptoms. My easy fix was to open the cap, put a rag over the filler and give it a blast of compressed air up the vent pipe at the rear of the tank. Been fine ever since. I haven't read of anyone else doing this but it worked for me.  Prior to this I would have to crack the fuel cap to get going again. That was several 1000k's ago. It also stopped the "whistling"

There should be a main "flapectomy" thread, but I couldn't find one.

My bike has reacted the same way twice now. The first time, I was on the A2 highway just south of Vienna. Clear 4 lanes, so I nailed it. Right at 150 MPH, she shut down and I coasted to the shoulder. I did some research and accomplished the "flapectomy" and had no further problems - until today.

I was pushing it pretty hard today, same conditions as before near Vienna, but without the flapper valve. As I pushed it for 30 seconds or so (seems like eternity) and reached nearly 145 MPH, it shut down again. I coasted to the shoulder, restarted and rode the next hour back home with no problems at all. It pulls hard on acceleration, and I've had this bike at the drag track, but only extended high revs seem to cause a shutdown. It's probably a life saving device, really.

I'm still guessing vapor-lock somehow. Any ideas?

That's one of the threads, anyhow.
