Getting my bike back together [84-1100] and there is a black wire coming off the starter motor.  Looks like the black neg. battery wire.  Cannot remember where I took this wire off from.  I could not find a pic in the manual to help me.

Dads_FJ

can you take a picture of it?

From memory - pretty certain that goes to the starter solenoid and is 12volt power.  The starter grounds thru the engine case.

Good luck

When all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail.

Cannot take [pic.  will put on the starter solenoid and see how it goes.  thanx

Ha, ha.  Well I don't know what the starter solenoid looks like either, and I could not find a pic of it listed in the manual. Neither did I find a solenoid listed in the electrical diagram. I am guessing this wire hooks to something under the right side panel near the igniter unit, but guess i will need a little more help.  Worst comes to worst I can load bike up and take it to the shop and have them point it out, but if someone wants a couple free beers wnen I see them next.....

starter s,noid is behind the battery in a rubber mount near the rear inner gaurd should have a thick red wire on one connection
unless you ride bikes, I mean really ride bikes, then you just won't get it

( 88 ) Fj 1200  fairly standard , + blue spots

Wow!  That's EXACTLY where my starter RELAY is located!!!    :-)

Last night I figured that out.  Round, a little larger than a quarter, has a pos. post and neg post on one end, the pos. post is on the top, on the other end has a red and white Hitachi 12V sticker with the number A104-128.  Thanx FJ11.5 and Slowoldguy, and I am to assume a solenoid and a relay is the same thing?

hate to burst your bubble , but a relay is different again , might help yourself if you buy or download a manual , very handy to have if the network is down  :good2:

Without taking one apart and looing at the guts, how do you tell the difference?

Does it matter?  On the dragbike I replaced the Yamaha RELAY with a Ford SOLENOID.

And we all run gas through the ENGINE in our MOTORcycle right?  But we start it with a MOTOR...

And what's the best oil to use?!   :flag_of_truce:
