RPM never seems to stop...!

My throttle cable was not springing closed when the grip was released. I discovered the cable was fraying as it entered the curved housing on the carb end. Hard to find, you bet; since I am away from a computer during the week, on Tuesday I left a phone message at RPM with my ordering information and new cables arrived on Thursday! Just like clock work...

Update: Several thousand miles ago I installed the upgraded front brake pads on my Blue Dot caliper and while not exponentially better, a very marked improvement. I certainly recommend them & wish that I had installed them sooner.

Finally, another member recently posted that he had installed the foam grips that RPM markets. I have been using them for well over a year and concur completely with his evaluation. After trying several more expensive grips, it was nice to discover this simple and inexpensive yet eloquent solution to hand fatigue, and very comfortable as well.

Ride carefully,

Mike Ramos.

The foam grips that Randy sells work very nicely with the Vibrinators too.  Very very smooth now.  This, combined with the bar risers, has greatly reduced the hand cramp, tingling and fatigue I was experiencing on longer rides.

ummmm... Grips? Could somebody e-me a link or something. I love this baby FJ, but the diameter of the grips cause my arthritic hands issues. I'd love to have something more comfortable....

I happened to get a pair of Sunline Grand Touring grips when I bought my handlebars from a part-out.

They are fat and slightly soft and would probably be really good for someone looking for fat grips. Apparently, they may be no longer available according to many websites I have looked at.
I searced ebay and found these.

wow , untill I read this thread , I had forgotten all about the hand cramps from the vibration of the fj. You see I installed the vibranators and foam hand grips and haven't had a problem since I installed them over a year ago.

In the past, I've had luck with just sliding on grips, will these be the same? Or are you guys using any adhesive? Mine should be here in a day or so...

RichBaker

You're better off using some sort of adhesive, I crashed a dirtbike because the grip came off.....  Hair spray works well, as does slow drying super glue, or, there is grip glue available at most bike shops.  I also put 2 or 3 strands of safety wire around them to keep them secure....

Yes, you just slide them on. I have heard of people using hair spray as a lubricant to install that dries and creates a bond.

On my two bikes, I just slid them on with water as the lube and they have never slipped.

<edit> Dang, Rich beat me to it by three minutes. One thing though, they cannot slide off with the bar ends in place...

Use an air duster gun to blow air between the grip and the bar. Slides on easy and is also a good way to remove them without any damage to the grip.

You can use hairspray or proper grip glue (look in the MX section of a bike store if you can't find it).  I've given up on that stuff because it makes removing grips too difficult.  Instead, I just safety wire them in place now.

An air compressor or canned air makes taking them off reasonably painless unless they were glued on really solidly, and getting them nice and warm makes it easier as well, either a hair dryer or parking the bike in a sunny spot for a bit before trying.
