Another Blue Dot Caliper question

Not many people "upgrade" the rear brake.  The stock system is more than adequate and most people don't like an overly sensitive rear brake.  Too much rear brake is a good way to  end up on your head after a high-side.

There are a lot of things on the FJ that are good good enough as is.

David, that makes me think.

A common mod is to put a master cylinder on the clutch/brakes with a smaller bore diameter than stock, easing the pressure required at the lever and giving a longer usable throw in the useful portion of stroke, meaning better sensitivity.

Wonder if rear masters are available in various bore sizes?  A more manageable rear brake could be a neat mod for those who use the rear brake regularly.  Occurs to me that I know absolutely nothing about rear brake master cylinders though.  Where to even begin researching?

I prefer to have a little in the lines to keep my rear brake on the weak and spongy side.
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

Those who change to a GSXR rear wheel assembly will also be using a GSXR rear (tokiko, I think) caliper and the smaller 240mm disk from the GSXR.  The smaller disk gives you reduced braking performance (which is good IMO).  Keeping the OEM yamaha rear master is fine and the rear brake is not nearly so touchy as OEM setup.

My fronts were blue dots also with Nissin urine cup and I changed to FJR MC...  much more lever travel through engagement and better feel IMHO.  Brake feel is one of those "personal taste" kind of things, so good luck.

I have not found any thing for the rear in the mod section...

For the rear check this link: http://www.fjmods.btinternet.co.uk/MarcRittner3.htm

of course the T-Ace rear mod is required first...

I actually do use the rear brake and find this works just about exactly as well as my stock '90 did.  I like the matched caliper look, but not sure I would have undertaken the mod (Thanks Marc!).

Sorry, but the OE MC is S***! with the blue dots, with the OE calipers and even with the 1100- 1200 1TX OE equipement. And the same MC fitted in the FZR/FZ models are S*** too

I live in a volcanic island with high altitude differences in 20-30 km. You go from 2.000 m. to sea level in a few kms and you NEED good brakes. And the OE MC DON´T WORK even although in 30 kg lighter bikes with better brakes (FZR 1000)

Changing the MC in my friend Mingo´s 1TX with the braided lines, without touching the OE calipers, transformed the brakes

The blue dots with the OE MC is like pressing a wooden lever without feeling and without apparent results in breaking. The only thing that you can get is an injury in your wirst Carpian tunnel

So 98 to 2002 r6 blue dots will bolt up to a 84 stock forks

None of the R6 or R1 or FZ1 calipers will bolt up to the early model 84-87 stock fork lowers. They will bolt right onto the lowers of the late model FJ's 89-93..

I think the FZR 400 RR fit the early FJs straight on

But with OE calipers and rotors, metallic hoses, FZ1 2001 MC, carefully revised and dialled anti-dive and OE pads and Hagon fork springs my friend´s Mingo FJ 1TX brakes as good as mine
