Hello all,

My name is Phil.  I just thought I would say hello.  I am a big FJ fan.  I have had my 89 FJ1200 for about 3 years and am the second owner.  I changed the rims over to the FZR1000 5 1/2" rear, and 3 1/2" in the front.  I added the Givi Monokey 2 with 3 racks and I have the 33's for the sides and the 45 for the topper.  I have an eagle smoke touring windshield, Corbin seat, Yamaha tank protector and Throttlemeister bar ends and throttle lock.  It has some other goodies but nothing worth bragging about.

I ride every week and just love this bike. It is in need of a new clutch, but I am considering doing the barnett SR2 swap, so I am just taking it easy until I get my funds in order.  Between my wife kids and summer vacations I have just about busted the bank.  I really want to ride in the FJ Rally in Boone, NC this year if I can.  My tire is worn flat in the middle from all the flat straight roads here in Florida.  I as in NC 2 years ago and did the Dragon, it was a great ride. I need to get back up there and wear the sides of my tread down before I have to get some new rubber.

Anyways, Notice the site about a year or so ago, but it didn't seem to be hoppin, and the other FJ sites are nearly dead.  I am hopeful I will find some like minds at this site.

Later, and Ride on...........

Welcome to the fire,
As far as the clutch goes, take out the small friction and replace all the frictions with stock units and buy a second clutch spring and double them up.. easy cheesy and works a charm.....

Welcome Phil!

Better plan your '09 FJ Rally ride for Tennessee.     :drinks:

Though IIRC, it wouldn't be the first time someone went to the wrong site...

Hello Phil,
Welcome to the forum.  Great group of people here.

Thanks for the welcome.

Not sure if I can make the Fall Rally in TN.  But I am going to try and make the effort.

Eric, are you suggesting I use to Diaphragm Springs in lieu of the Barnett spring convertion kit?  If so, is the suggestion to help save on cost, or because it is a comparable change to the system.  I will have the cash in a few weeks, and have plans to upgrading to the Barnett friction plates (Kevlar), Barnett steel clutch plates and the Barnett SR2 spring upgrade to replace the diaphragm clutch release.  At about 45,000 and the bike running as strong as ever, and the fact that the rear tire actually hooks up now, I thought it would be a good idea to improve the clutch's over all ability to put the power to the ground.  Since I have upgraded my tire combo, and can use softer compound rubbers, I have lost the ability to do long burnouts.  Now the bike just yanks the front wheel and goes.   I am sure this is why the clutch is starting to go, that and it is the original clutch, but the gentleman that owned the bike before me was very gentle with the bike.  At 47 years of age I wish I could say the same, but I would be lying.  I bought the bike for the rush, and I have not been disappointed as of yet.

Anyways, I should probably post my question about the clutch in the appropriate section of the site.

Thanks again.

Phil,
I would strongly suggest using the stock frictions and remove the inner most small stock friction and replace it with a full size stock friction. The kevlar frictions and spring kit turn the clutch into a light swith full on or full off. Most here who have tried the Barnett kit end up going back to the stock parts and add an additional stock spring. If its good enough for the legends guys its enough to launch your fj.. and its less expensive at the same time...dont forget to soak your new frictions prior to intalling them....
Hope this helps....

Gooday Phil,
Noice bike...
I've often been asked, 'What do you old folks do now that you're retired'?

"Well. I'm fortunate to have a chemical engineering background, and one of the things I enjoy most is turning beer, wine, Scotch, and margaritas into urine."

+1 on the stock friction plates.

But, I find they work fine with the Barnett pressure plate.

It's those grabby kevlar plates I don't like.  They tend to glue themselves together overnight, too.
