   OK. Interested but I am trying to go to the WCR and possably a rally in Colorado in late July. Boy if I could hit 3 in a summer......

Ok: Here is one concept from someone who never has been on a "rally" before.


We meet at a relatively central location (Sandpoint Idaho?) on a Saturday morning.  Loop north and cross the 49th via 295 to Trail BC (about 250KM).  Maybe an afternoon ride on a twisty road etc.  Saturday night festivities of some sort.  Head off Sunday home.

Just an idea...feel free to improve.

I've done that exact same ride...  excellent, excellent stuff.  If you wanted to modify it, you could cruise into MT (no speed limits!) and go through Glacial National Park [GNP] (Going To The Sun Road is a good bit of fun) -then north into the heart of the Canadian Rockies, in AB which are every bit as beautiful as GNP...  I have done THAT too, and it's more scenic that north from Sand Point.

If you go, I highly recommend the towns of Banff, and Nelson...

I would LOVE to join you folks, but it's not in the cards.

Yep.....Albertans would ride through Glacier (although GTSun Road last year was painfully slow due to construction) to Kalispel to Libby to Sandpoint.

Yes yes, I am aware that there are now "limits" on the books.  But in practice, they are not enforced in any great amount, from what I can tell.  In 2010, I did the ride I described above.  I had rented a KLR650 in Missoula, MT ridden north with a buddy who lives out there -as above, through GNP etc.  ~The entire trip was north a 75 mph.  Coming back we swung through Sand Point, to drop him off at his house.  I left his house late, way too late to make it back to Missoula by the prescribed time to meet the man that rented the bike to me.

I rode that bike as fast as I could (100+ much of the time, and over 75mph esentially all of the time) and I can tell you, I was NOT the fastest thing on that road...  I felt perfectly comfortable speeding, as again, if anyone was to be pulled over, it would likely not be me...   I never even saw anyone pulled over and people drive fast in MT.  I figure, from that experience, that the 75mph max is essentially not enforced.  I made it to the renter just a few minutes late, so I had that going for me.

From Calgary, according to google it is 431 KM going down 89 which runs along both lakes....should be nice ride.



June 15  Kalispel to Castlegar BC via 395 275 KM.  Depending on arrival time an afternoon ride to Nelson for "tea".
