Well I tried the K&N air filter and like I was told on the old site I don't like it. I love the acceleration, but I do not like the
too lean condition riding around town. So I want to go back to my UNI filter and I can not find my "Air Filter Element Retainers". You know the 2 plastic pieces that hold the air filter in place. I thought maybe I could order them but I can not find them identified in "yamaha Parts" website not in the hard copy of old microfiche that I bought. Any suggestions?
Do they come with a new air filter? Stock? Uni?

Anson, I still have a couple in my stock airbox. I went to UNI dual-pods a few years ago. They are just a couple of wedge shaped pieces of plastic, which are retained by the airbox lid (well side cover is probably more accurate)...... maybe you could fab up a couple to do the trick?
What year is your FJ?.... I can put them in an envelope and send them to you if its the right year.

Harvy,
I have an '89. Even if I just had the dimensions I could make a couple.

Anson, I just pulled them out and they are a bit more complicated than I first recalled. I'm not even going to try to describe them.
Looking as the parts list, they are not sold separately, but included as components of the air cleaner case (89 and 91 both p/n 36Y-W1441-00-00)
Email me your address..... I'll post them over to you.

harvy@holman.name will do the trick.

Mine was missing from the previous owner.   I whittled up a replacement holder from a bit of scrap balsa 3/8 x 3/8 square stock and cut it down to fit into the groove and hold up the filter.   30K+ miles later and it is still holding up to the task.   A sustainable green solution!  OK, really, just a quick fix to a problem keeping me from riding and seems to still be working.    :good2:
