You use jack stands, clamps, bailing wire and electrical tape to check if your Ebay wheel is straight. I forgot to bring home the Mag base and dial indicator from work. Not having a 15 MM round bar laying around I timed checking the front 17" wheel when the 16" was off, to use the front axial, for the last new 16" Avon. I can say that the wheel is not badly bent or abused. So I need to forge ahead and get my 17" upgrade on the front.



Using a piece of bent wire on both sides, taped to the clamps, I had reference points as the wheel was rotated. I figure if I cannot see any change in gap then the wheel is at least within .005" true.


The image is not very clear, I used masking tape to pull the two clamps together to make sure the gap between the wheel and wire end was as small as possible. Smaller than a gnat's ass.


Now I feel more confident in getting the remainder of materials to finish the front end upgrade. 2012 WCFJR  is coming at me way too fast.

SST brake lines - Orme Brothers, local shop. Ditch the 86' AD units for good.
Powder coater - I have a local guy that does Acrylic powder, very glossy finish, common for wheel finishes. Not in Purple or Periwinkle!
Rotors - Need to check the ones off the other salvage wheel. They may be straight and have some life left.
Amsoil - Might as well go full synthetic for the forks, not sure what weight.
Fork seal kit - RPM
Fork protectors - Still researching options
Fork Brace - Thanks RPM (Randy)
Rubber - I will start by matching up with my rear a Dunlop Q2 and see how that goes. I burn through 3 fronts to each rear so I have many options to test front tires. Not sure if I want a harder front tire on the front, I would prefer to pay more for tires than leather and bike parts. 

FYI, I got 2240 miles out of my last AV45 front. I hope the 17" world has more to offer.

These are old mouse pads on my bikes (one mouse/bike!)... the ones on FJ are about 10 years old, on my TDM only a year...

That will keep them from crashing into the upper fairing on full compression. Good farm boy fix, I like it.

For fork/seal covers, go to sealsavers.com  These fit on from the top of the fork. Made from neoprene [skin diving suit material].  There is another company selling the same idea but they have velcro? or some way to just take them on/off without going over the top of the fork tube but I cannot remember their company name.  Both brands are used for dirt bikes but they should have a size to fit any fork.
