Pat, If he has a late tank the early fuel valve won't fit. They changed the bolt pattern in 89.

Silar, still keep a eye out on that fuel filter.
When the fuel line head pressure is reduced you may find a high rpm studder.
When you have a full tank of gas you have good head pressure forcing the fuel through the filter, but when you have a low tank you have low fuel line pressure and that's when the symptoms will appear.
