Time to upgrade brakes

I'm finally gonna do it.  Found a pair of R6 calipers from an 03 for $50.  They have braided lines for $6o, but haven't gotten length confirmation yet.  It's a 2-line set up.  If the lines will work out, I'll try to get a package deal on the price.  How's that price sound for a pair of calipers?

Excellent price.  You'll love those brakes - exactly the same as I put on my FJ a few years ago.
Now see if you can sell your OEM 4-pots for more than you paid for the blue spots :-)

i had yzf braided lines for awhile only reached to the standard fj connector and not the master, r6 may be longer
unless you ride bikes, I mean really ride bikes, then you just won't get it

You will need to find a 14mm in-line master to get the best power/feel from the monoblocks. A 19mm radial master works even better.

This is a correct "14mm in-line master".

Jon, how is a 14mm in-line M/C different than a standard bowl cast into the M/C?
Is there more efficient pumping or a better feel?

Thanks for the confirmation and advice.  Anxiously awaiting the answer to grannyknot's question. Any difference in the banjo angle at the caliper end or same as stock calipers?

The master cylinders that I pointed out on eBay produce much better feel and controle. The 14mm in-line master should be very cheep, $20 to $30 for a good one. Yamaha used that master on the YZF600r, the r6 and the r1. I also like it because it has an adjustable lever. I ride about 48 weeks a year and some of my gloves are heavy and thick.

The best master cylinder I have found for use with the blue or gold spot monoblocks is the 19mm radial master from a GSXR 600. Mine was from a 2006, and it is a step above the in-line master in feel. Some of the improvement is because the radial master flexes less then the in-line master. Some of the improvement is because there is less friction in the radial master.
Build or buy a set of braded brake lines, even if you don't upgrade your master cylinder.

You will love the mod to blue dots once done.  Don't quote me on exactly why the 14mm are better but the normal FJ master is 15mm cyl and my guess is the 14mm does pump with more pressure due to it being smaller ( or maybe its the other way around)  but bottomline  it does give you better feel and a lighter touch. You can one/two finger the brakes once done.

Look at it this way you are better to go with what the blue dots came with from the master cylinder side of things which is the 14mm.  Here is a pic of my set up -- it is with an older blue dot set-up as the master reservoir is cast metal as oppose to a newer urine cup reservoir.  I think the older style matches the bike more.  Mine is from an 2001 yzf yamaha.   And yes the adjustable lever is a extra plus.

As far as the braided lines.  I had FJ aftermarket lines prior to the blue dots.  I did get them to work but the angle is different at the banjo bolt to the calipers.  The FJ ones need the angle the Blue Dots do not.  The lines due to the angle jut out from the caliber more and I had to slightly bend the reflector around the line.

i used xjr blue dots, amazing brakes even better with newer braided lines, much better all around, 2finger braking if your into it.could of used the inline master but already had the urine cup clutch, so went with the rebuilz yzf master the original braided lines had been from, since swapped those for galfer braides in black of course (popcorn) (popcorn)
