Well I'm new to everything actually. Bought an '85 Yamaha FJ 1100 from a friend who took great care of it. Sort of.....

Has the usual second gear issue, need to do a tune up, maybe the carbs... I'm new to the whole motorbike thing as well. Took a 4 day course from a local instructor and had an absolute fantastic time! Passed my MST so I can ride by myself. Put a permit on the bike but couldn't keep it running, so a nice new battery and now the only problem I know of is a needed tune up. Bike is in beautiful shape thou, 76,XXX km on the odometer. I love the bike, ridden it once and now I'm going to repair second gear and get it tuned up.

Anyone with any advice on what I should do when I repair the tranny would be great!!

Thanks

Welcome to the group!

it is the dogs/windows  of the 2/5 gear set that need to be undercut..... many times the original gears can be saved.

you want to replace all the shift forks with the new updated beefier ones to help keep this from happening again.

Kookaloo!

Welcome Effjay.  I'm in Nanaimo as well.  We should get together for a ride.  Will be gone for two weeks for the Colorado rally coming up.  I'll message you when we get back.  May be able to lend a hand with the tune up as well.

Effjay I am new here also, but welcome everybody seems great. Carbs always seem to be the number one thing if your fj is not running the way it should. Check your pilot jets they always seem to be to lean on every fj I have worked with, hope this helps? Good job on taking the and passing course!
