Where does the wind hit?

84/FJ1100 stock windshield.
I never got a chance to ride the bike with the windshield on before I started the tear down, wondering if someone could describe where the wind hits you? Chest, throat, face? I have seen some nice looking after
market wind screens that come up 5-6 inches higher than stock wondering if those are any "better".

Also, how much air/wind comes up through the gap around the steering head?

Chris, on my '84 I've had both, the stock windscreen and Gustafsson's +6" touring screen.
I am 6'3" and the tall extended screen caused the wind to buffet my helmet. Very tiring on long rides. Sore neck muscles on the next day. The line of dirty wind was right at my mid face shield.

I think someone shorter than I, say 5'6" or so, the wind line would be above the top of the helmet with the extra tall touring windscreen.
The shorter +2 and +4" screens would be a problem for all riders IMHO.
I went back to the lower oem screen and now my helmet is in clean and quieter air with no buffeting.   HTH  Pat

Oh yea, if you get one of these tall screens, be sure to get the blue tint.....That way it would look just like Marge Simpsons hairdoo......seriously

The stock windscreen hit me right about the clavicle, so depending on which helmet I was wearing and how I was seated would either be kinda quiet or a little buffeting.  I'm 5'11", but I have a short torso and goon legs (35" inseam).

I purchased a Gustaffsson touring screen, and had it on for the better part of 4 hours.  Long enough to absolutely loathe it;  It created horrible buffeting and wind noise, and to top it off I lost all of my helmet venting.  The air hit about at my brow.   I still have it, its in great condition.  If you think it'll work better for you you can have it cheap...

I finally ended up with a Zero Gravity Drag screen, which is about 2 inches lower than the stock screen.  Air hits mid-chest, and leaves me in absolute quiet, with the only noise coming from whatever helmet I have on.   You couldn't pay me to trade screens after having this one.
There are only two kinds of people who are really fascinating: people who know absolutely everything, and people who know absolutely nothing.

I too, have a zero gravity screen on my '85. I'm around 5'8'' and the wind also hits me about mid chest. I've never tried a taller screen because I'm very happy with the ZG. The price and availability of these screens also adds to the attraction.  Regards, Pete.
