Hi I am in the process of having a painter restore my 84 fj tank I have got the YAMAHA decals for the sides but on the oem tank the dark blue stripe is a decal, it  is not listed on the parts fishe, does anyone no of any place that duplicates them or the color of the stripe, I'm sure the painter can match the stripe I was just trying to make it a little easier for him any info please email me at (keihin39@comcast.net thanks in advance,

I pretty sure they are painted on because mine are cracking. I would go with the darkest blue metallic you can find.

I dunno about the prototype models, but my '89 definitely has a stripe decal.

My '84 is a decal and cracking...   You may be doing your painter a favor if you can paint it instead of a decal.  I know when I redid the front fairing, I painted the stripe.  I painted it a standard gloss black with 4 layers of clear to polish it all up.    My data point in the forest.  Good Luck!   :drinks:

On my 85 I can safely say the stripe is a decal, quite thick too. It feels different to the tank. It has however been painted over as the paint is peeling a smidgen. a gloss black would do nicely if you have the white and red model and not the silver and candy red one.

Should be very easy to fabricate or you could even make your own if you got to a place that fits decals on bikes
