Dog Bones

Hi, just wondering if anyone has lowered the FJ (short legs)  by having extended new engineered dog bones (if this is the right way to go)  5'6" short arse

yes they have messed with the dog bones. you can even get adjustable ones.

try a corbin seat first as it lowers your ass closer to the ground.

Be aware that lowering the rear will take away from the bikes handling and cornering abilities.
The bike will feel heavier and tougher to turn.

Try the custom seat first, like Mark suggest.

I've got the turnbuckle type on my FJ.  From a half inch taller than stock to 2.5" shorter.  For street use, it was always jacked up as far as I could get it, and even then would scrape things when being aggressive.  Lowered for the track, it would scrape a bit easier and the steering was a pinch lazy, but nothing you'd call dangerous.  Also has a corbin on it, and imo it didn't really shorten the stretch to the ground any (I'm 5'9"), as width of the seat between your legs is more of an issue than absolute height.

You can also take the stock seat, trim the foam so it's narrower at the front and a bit lower, then re-cover it.

I like the infinite adjustablility of the turnbuckle links, personally.  I'm using Soupy links, and he'll happily make them for whatever length you want (so you could get them to go quite a bit taller than stock if you wanted to go the other direction as well).  The only hassle is that changing the swingarm angle will change the chain tension, and you'll need to reset that each time you adjust height.
