Oil Temp Gauge Install

I know "Firehawk068" did a VDO install, but mine is a Nitrous brand. It's neat because it has a button on the face that lets you cycle through the colors you want, or off. I just got the oil sender adaper today from Randy. I'm thinking about installing it on the right side just in front of the oil sight glass.

I've had a couple problems already:

1. The temp sender has 2 wires coming from it - a red one and a black one. There are NO instructions in the wiring diagram included that show where these wires go. After about 45 minutes of searching the web, I learned that the red wire is attached to a green wire (input) for the gauge. The black wire is connected to another black wire from the gauge and both go to ground. If this is wrong, please tell me!

2. The gauge itself is very deep - about 3 1/2 inches or so. I could mount it somehow just to the left of my ignition key, or I could cut a hole into my right fairing panel like Firehawk068 did. But then it would stick out of the hole about an inch. I think that would be a better choice.

I think this should actually be in the "Modification" section.

I installed the gauge today, and it does stick out a little, but I don't think it looks too bad. I have a problem with the needle bouncing all over the place through the entire range when riding. It's very unreliable while riding, but sitting still at idle it's fine. I'll try to find another 12 volt source and check the grounds again.

Well, the cheap gauge is totally dead now. I even re-wired it with good ground, 12V, everything. The light still works, but that's it. I wonder if the vibration killed it?

Personally I felt the needle acting like a Geiger counter at Chernobyl was more a matter unit quality. Shindy/Daytona makes a digital temp unit. I have one installed on my FJ and CB750. They have been mounted for over 4 years with no problems at all.

I actually bought this one for $44. I only wish it had a white face.
