Gentlemen, After my ride today,my 89 wouldnt turn off with the key.....the "Run/Off" switch worked to kill motor. Is this likely to be anything other than the ign,key switch ?     thanks.

Its possibly a broken wire or connector to the key switch, but that's about all the choices.
Check the wires first, but then, Randy (rpm) has some key switches that are very well priced.

Are you using a relay for powering your coils? I had this same problem a couple of weeks ago and discovered that the relay wasn't switching off the power to the coils. The relay was faulty. A new relay solved the problem.    Pete.

Ok...I put a test lite into the plug at the 3 wire ing. sw. and cycled the key...test lite went on and off,,,so this would eliminate the key sw.           (i assume)     then i disconnected the POWER going to the coil relay (recent upgrade) and coils are still hot.. WTH??    I went over all the wires that i worked with when doing the coil relay upgrade and everything is solid...just as i left it....bike runs great..not sure where to go next?   h e l p...

When you installed the relay, did you remove the power wires (R-W IIRC) to the coils and just use them  to switch the relays?  Is the relay stuck or welded in the ON position?

Arnie,I had a spare relay that i swapped and i can hear it (and the original )clicking on/off....i did the upgrade exactly as it is written in our modification files and i cant say for sure if that means the R-W power wire are removed?  i cant say i remember removing anything though. what is IIRC? ...  what gets me is that i unplugged the power wire coming from the starter selonoid that goes into the relay?.... so it seems the problem has to be up at the wiring  by the coils, yes?     i appreciate your help.

This shows the electrical connections you should have with the coil relay mod.

Notes:
The "trigger" is from the wires that previously powered the coils (not necessarily from the kill switch)
In the case of the FJ these are the R-w wires.

When the +V is removed from the trigger wires, the power to the coils will also be removed.

Hope this helps.
