I HAVE AN ALMOST STOCK FJ1200 AND I AM LOVEING IT. MY BACK TIRE IS AT OR ABOUT BALD. I RECENTLY GOT AN OFFICE STAPLE IN THE TIRE THAT I HAD TO PATCH. THE BIKE HAS FRONT AND REAR METZLERS LASERICS ON NOW. I SEE A NEW TIRE IS ABOUT 175 DOLLARS. I WAS WONDERING IF ANYONE HAD AN OPION ON DIFFERENT TIRES.    THANKS FOR LOOKING

What kind of riding do you subject your tires too? Do you need grip like a corner junkie? Or long mileage like an Iron Butt Slaber?
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

Any Harley tire will do, you still have plenty of choices.

David had his Harley tire on for ooooh about 14 years... he just replaced it IIRC.....amazing longevity.

You're exaggerating Pat.  It was only 13 years.  It will spend the rest of eternity as a rim protector for the 16 inch wheel.  I just don't have the heart to cut it off there.  Maybe I'll at least get rid of the stock wheel that has a Metzeler MEZ2 rim protector on it.

BTW, before my Arkansas trip last month I installed a "new" MEZ2 on the rear of my '93.  Its manufacture date was sometime in '02.  Needless to say, it's wearing at an alarming rate.

David, compared to what you had on it, wrapping the rear rim in strips of steel and braizing them in place would show alarming rates of wear.  It's okay, be glad you're not using a sporty tire from 10 years ago or so... replacing the tires before you replaced the oil got expensive in a hurry!
