Hello,

I'm new to the forum and wanted to introduce myself.  I've lusted after FJ's for years now (ever since I sold my mint '84 FJ1100 back in 1996).  I was finally able to pick up a clean '90 FJ1200, and I'm excited to be back in the game.  I've poked around this forum a little bit, and it looks like you guys have a great group of members.  This is actually the first forum I've ever joined, so if I screw up or have a major breach of netiquette, please let me know.

I had a couple of questions that have come up in the last few weeks, and I'm hoping someone might be able to help me out.

1. In doing the typical maintenance when you get a new (used) bike, I found the valves were pretty far out of adjustment.  I thought I had the tool for depressing the bucket to remove the shims, but it turns out the tool I have only depresses one bucket at a time (like on the older Yamaha inline fours).  The only place I can seem to find the FJ valve tool is on eBay, but I'm having a hard time wrapping my mind around the $70 price for this small piece of metal.  Are there any other options or cheaper ways to get that tool?

2. I'd really like to get a taller windscreen with a lip.  Right now, the wind flow hits me right at my nose level (I'm only 5'5"), but I would like to gain just a couple more inches of clean air which would actually give me a nice clear envelope of air when I'm riding.  I'm having trouble finding this for the 1990 model year.  I've seen the laminar lips, but I wonder if that would really improve the air flow envelope.  Any suggestions?

Thanks for your help.  If these questions have already been specifically answered in older posts, I apologize in advance.  I've searched the forum a couple of times, but haven't found exactly what I'm looking for.

Thanks,
Don Schultz

Welcome to the club Don, check with Randy RPM motorsports, he is a club member and parts supplier, I think his price for the valve tool is less that others are asking. He has many parts for sale to the club including some custom parts like his new fork brace. Check the club listings under parts/suppliers. Kookaloo....

Hey I have a 90 FJ12 as well
I am 5'6" and the standard shiled let the wind hit me across the shoulders ( I sit high due to a sheepskin seat cover - but getting a custom John Moorhouse seat as soon as its finished!)

I got a new shield with a lip and now the wind hits me across at eye level - which is a bugger with the Shoei XR1100 as it is very noisy!
(which will be fixed by the new seat with lower sitting height)

I got mine from a place in Brisbane Austrralia for $150 and very happy about it - fit perfectly
Only thing is the section around the base and sides is not blacked out like the original so I had to spray it to not see the fairing underneath
AJ Plastics they are on the net, sorry I dont have a clue about postage as I picked mine up in person

Yes, do get in touch with Randy at RPM. Ordered my parts on Friday and thought at first he made a mistake when he said I would have them here Tuesday (Yesterday) since the 4'th was Monday.. When I checked the Snail mail site I was shocked.. THANK YOU RANDY! Awesome job.. I will definitely ordering parts from you if you carry them.

Greetings Don, yea, that tool is expensive, but I think Randy has the best price.
For windscreens check out this vendor:  http://www.fjowners.com/index.php?topic=93.0
Marsh (our forum founder) did their website, so we get a discount.

If you are 5'5" I think that a +4 taller windscreen will work well for you...

Cheers!  Pat
