Ignition wire lengths....

Has anyone measured the length of the wires from coil to spark plug?  I need to make wires for my DYNA coils and I don't want to take it all apart until I'm ready to do the swap.....

Thanks!

Rich, when I did my Dyna coils and ignition, I also bought the Dyna grey plug wires. They are supplied made up with a plug cap on each end with plenty of length to spare and coil boots loose......just cut to the appropriate length and connect them into the coils.

Easy!

Measured including plug boot
1- 13.75"
4- 14.75"
2- 12.25"
3- 12"
Are you mounting the Dynas in the stock location?

Harvey, I don't like graphite suppression wires, everything I've read says that's what the DYNA wires are, so I don't want them..... Had major issues with a Ford Cleveland (in a Late Model-legal Mustang oval racer) that wouldn't rev, started missing and spitting at anything over ~4k.  It was the graphite-core wires.....  Therefore, I will NOT run them on any engine that likes to rev.

Carsick, yes, I have a bracket Jon Cain made and will use that to mount them in the stock location... Thanks!

Fair enough Rich, and everything you have read is correct, they are Graphite core. Mine are not yet even a year old and have no problems reaching high RPM........we shall see what happens as they age.

There's nothing wrong with graphite leads, BUT, they do require gentler handling. Most problems with them happen during installation when they get "bent"(broken) You can't handle them as roughly as wire leads but once in place they should give excellent service. They are commonly used because of their superior performance.

Rich,
You better check with Dyna.  I had the same reservation about "suppression" wires .  However, when I talked to Dyna about this, they said to ONLY USE GRAPHITE SUPRESSION leads and to NOT USE METAL WIRES with their coils!

Might be best to call.  The number I have is (626)771-4168

I did the same as Harvy and used the Dyna Grey Wire set and cut them to length.

Thanks, David.  Talked to them, the tech couldn't give a good reason to use their wires, sounded more like they just want to sell their stuff, $$$.  Over 26 years as an Electronics tech, after 10 as an auto tech (specializing in electrical for the last 4), says they shouldn't make a difference to the coils....
I'm going with a good, metallic spiral-wound wire,MSD or Taylor, whichever the local speed shop has.

Well, given my current trouble with a full Dyna system, I may look at alternate brand wires and coils also.  Let me know what you find.  I don't particularly like the straight leads on the Dyna wires.  I would prefer the slightly angled ones like stock.

Hi Dave

One of my race cars has a dyna ign in it. It has the stock 1200 coils on it, they are suppose to be different but it works quite well. your 1100 coils are a little different from the 1200s. (resistance is different)
