Sounds like the alternate route isn't a bad ride either, but this road is on my bucket list...       :good:

The bypass is Nacimento Rd, which Gazza, Paddy & I nearly took en route to the 2008 WCR (Thanks Gazza!)

Nacimiento-Fergusson Rd. is one of the only East-West passages along the Big Sur coast line and is a fantastic ride.  Most of it is "unengineered" asphalt with no center line.  The road does pass through Hunter Leggit Military Post and at times those using the road are required to show proof of insurance as they pass onto the post (you go through a guarded entrance at both ends of the post).

Some of the best views at Big Sur are at the top of Nacimiento Rd. facing west.   I would stay off of it until the repair at Hwy 1 is complete as it will be used by every tourist in the area that gets surprised when they find the road washed out.  I have had close calls with tourist drivers on 1 let alone the near single lane "no-lines" condition of Naci-Ferg.

These wash outs happen every so often and it will be fixed - the question is when?  This one looks pretty bad!

Cheers- tim
