Well the gathering of the bits and pieces is coming to a close at this point. Have all parts for the rear conversion to gsxr wheel including new sprockets/chain. Going with the 18/38 combo as are most here, and with the zzz chain. New bearings in fzr front wheel and rear wheel, both have a fresh powder coat on them. Front forks well be coming soon, have all required brake hardware, just need to decide if I'm going to use the stock brake master or use the R1 master? More than likely the R1 well be the choice. May need to wait for Rpm valves and springs for the forks till next winter, well have to evaluate the $$$ in a few weeks. Also believe I'm going with the conti rubber, getting to old to be dragging knee's. So the conti's should be fine. Looks like solitary confinement for me (beers, garage/wrenching time). Pictures to come.

You don't have to drag knee to appreciate really brilliant rubber.

Having ridiculous reserves of grip is occasionally handy under hard braking, avoidance manuvering, and sometimes even hard accelleration.  It's no pancea and will never replace paying attention nor riding within your limits, but still.... damned handy sometimes.

Continental tires have some really good knee dragging stuff. I currently run on the Motions and find them working well for me on a budget. Good tires if you don't drag your knees.... Might be good enough to drag your knees, but I still have some Chicken strips to wear off before I can make that claim. $185 for a set including shipping.
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

Yes I have used the old motocross skills several times to avoid unobservant drivers (I'll be nice).

Point and case made, I stand in favor of your comment....

Being a strict Dunlop guy, and not having any real experience with the Conti's, I took it slow at first to figure out the limits of these tires. Every ride I would push them a little harder and get the feel of them.

Then I got a Penske. Change the ride height and of course much better feel out of the rear. I have no trouble dragging hard parts on the ground and taking the sweepers at triple digit with the Motions now.

But as I said, I had to work into that feeling of trust.

I have had several sets of Conties in the past on different bikes never on the FJ and was very happy with them, no complaints.
