I'm thinking of putting one of these http://www.twistedthrottle.com/imagecatalogue/imageview/12879/?RefererURL=/trade/productview/2710/113/  on my FJ.  I'm planning on doing a long ride and thought it might help with the wind buffeting.  I have an old givi tall sheild and a stock one(currently mounted).  To be honest I never noticed any difference between the two.  I'm hopin this combined with either sheild will help out a bit.  Anyone try?

Markfj,

I have a similar device I'm using on my '91.  It creates a "slot" for the air and then tips it up and over.  Works very well, but is longer than that shown at the twisted throttle site.
I don't have a pic currently, but I'll try to get one up in the next day or so.

Thanks I'd appreciate that.  I don't think they look too bad, but so long as it works I'll be happy.  At this point it's all about functionality.  That goes for me as well as the FJ.

Here are 3 pics of what I've done.  This is made from 4.5mm (3/16") acrylic sheet.

Feel free to modify the height and width as you think appropriate for you.

I do like the adjustable parallelogram mount that the twisted throttle unit has.

Looks good!  I once tried (several years ago) to make a "lip" type extension for my 89 kind of similar to what you've done.  I cut the acrylic out and shaped it real nice with a dremel.  I did some online research of how to shape it in an oven.  I made a mold to set it on so that it would slowly soften and conform to it.  I tried it a couple of times and failed miserably every time.  The acrylic always bubbled on me.  I gave up.

How did you do it?

Arnie

Nothing so flash as a mold or even an oven :-)

I used a heat gun and an electric bar heater.
I bent the sides over a piece of wood cut to that 210mm inside measurement and then used the bar heater to soften the larger area I wanted to bend.
Wear gloves!!! acrylic that is soft enough to bend is H O T.
After it was bent to shape, I then used an angle grinder to get the final shape for the edges and smoothed them with a file and sander.

The '91 and later OEM windscreens here have those "fins" on them, so its easy to just drill some holes for mounting pins.  On a smooth screen, a mount system like the twisted throttle deflector lip would be ideal.  Shouldn't be too hard to make some up out of aluminum angle.
