Hey everbody my name's Josh. I'm 21 and live in Maryland. I first got my FJ last summer as a gift from my girlfriend's father. He bought it at an auction, tore it down, and began to make a streetfighter out of it. In doing so, he decided to rhino line the bike to give it a kind of industrial look. Needless to say, he didn't care for thelook and when I showed interest in the bike, he gave it to me. I proceeded to remove the rhino lining ( an EXTREMELY time consuming task ) and then started to size up the work needed to get the bike back on the road. I decided to stay with the street fighter feel. After a lot of hard work and a bit of money too, my blacked out, Darth Vader style FJ was born. I ended up keeping the bike for a while and then trading it for a lifted Bronco. Though I love my truck, lately I've found myself missing my FJ a lot. This is where the story gets interesting. I was on craigslist this past wednesday, just browsing, when an add title caught my attention..."Yamaha FJ1200 Street Fighter." I clicked on the add and began to read about it. The guy said that he didn't know much about what the bike was worth and to text him with offers. From there, I scrolled down to the pictures, and sure enough, it was my bike. Just out of curiosity I contacted the guy ( who was not the same guy I traded it to ) and offered him $600. He turned me down, but I told him of how it used to be mine just for the sake of conversation. Anyway, I ended up going to see it and the next day, and due to the bike running a little rough, he accepted my $600. So I now, officially am an FJ owner again. For the most part it seems to be in alright running condition, but occasionally it'll sputter and backfire pretty severely at lower rpm's when it's cold started. It seems to get better at higher rpm's though. Everything seems to go away if ample time is allowed to warm up, but even then it's not quite as smooth as I remember it being. My theory is that it needs the carbs cleaned. Before tearing them down, I've decided to runs some fuel injector cleaner through the bike to see if it helps at all. Comments and suggestions would be greatly aprreciated guys.

Thanks,

Josh

welcome to the group Josh,

cool story... sounds like the bike is destined to be yours.

a good carb cleaning and synching will definitely bring back some lost smoothness.

we have a great how to file on that very subject right here....

Thanks guys, I ran it today with the fuel injector cleaner in the tank, which seems to have helped somewhat, but it still seems to be somewhat bogged down. I'm thinking that I'll be taking a closer look at the carb article mentioned above rather soon...
