"........ If you combined that piston set up with Carrillo A beams it would be fantastic in terms of weight savings. Very easy on the crank and smooth.
Yep, I thought about that, in fact that was my first choice, some nifty lightweight Carrillo A beam rods, but like you said, they were a very long lead item (2 months+) and $$$.
I think bang for the buck, a best deal are the XJR1250 rods, with a stronger than stock bottom end, and 35 grams lighter than stock and less than 1/2 the price of Carrillo A's....even though they weigh a tad more than the feather weight Carrillo A's.
IMO, No biggie on a street bike.
FYI, Courtesy of Randy, here's the different rod weights (inc.cap and bolts)
Stock oem Yamaha: 396 grams
XJR 1250 rods:        361 grams
Carrillo H beam:       356 grams
Carrillo A beam:       337 grams
We haven't weighed the 82mm Wisecos yet, that will happen after the milling, balancing and coating, but I suspect the total weight of the new 82mm Weisco/XJR rod assemblies will be less than the weight of the stock 74mm piston and rod assemblies.
Stay tuned. We shall see where the numbers come in.  Yea Carrillo A beams would have been cool.....XJR's will be fine.

Are those pistons using an XA or XC ring pack Pat?
Dunno Mike, I'll ask.

I agree Pat. That is a very nice chart Randy laid out. I personally have not dealt with XJR parts....I'm going to enter it into the info stash.

I got my fj1200 cylinders and pistons today from an ebayer for 86 bucks with pins and rings can't go too wrong-they are like new low mileage item by the fit and no scratches and the good thing is they drop right in the 1100 cases I found out(they have not been machined) funny thing is could probaly fit sleeves with a couple more millimeters in there(compared them to my other 110 cases same is true with them)this is my turbo bike backup engine since i have a low mile cycle salvage one to drop in the chassis which I am busy tig welding to move engine forward 13 inches seat height 7 inches lower-thinking the best cure for the scored cam caps on the exhaust side of which two are scored is to have the replacement cam hardwelded on those two journals to make them bigger then tighten the cams while turning with valve grinding compound-any advice welcome-Sherwood

All that, and not a single period, wow.  Not to make fun, but I found it a bit tough to read.  I had to stop and go back a time or two to figure out where one thought ended and another began.

Wow!!! I read that post and had no problem with a lack of periods.....I am so used to south of the border, almost engrish that I just made it work with out thinking of how bad it was.....bugger me....I am helping the degradation of my native language with out my awareness. Work is challenging at best to manage communications with many with English as a second language. My brain has already been sucked out. Or I am just way too past my bed time?
