Hello everyone, i just bought a 1985 yamaha fj 1100 with some serious modifications to it, i am extremely happy with my new bike considering i moved up from a 1982 honda ascot. I seriously look forward to riding the crap out of this thing and do not think i will be dissapointed. I hate the seat on it and that will be the forst thing to go im thinking black springer seat. Let me know what you think! Sorry the picture is so crappy its a cell phone, its all i had when i went and picked it up, i will have more soon!

Welcome Tywedd!
Let me be the first to say, uh, you won't meet yourself on that one! Are those parts handmade or from various other bikes? And the forward control is certainly unique. Pull a couple plug wires and you'll really have the Harley experience. Fill us in with lots more pics/info about the bike and it's history, plus some about you, we do love a good story.

Lol i guess i didnt really introduce myself very well, I am a 21, and in the middle of my training to become a helicopter pilot (currently hold private license on my way to becoming commercial and instructor). I moved to california from michigan with my girlfriend 5 months ago for school and stand by it being the best decision ever. I got my first road bike about 8 months ago (1982 ascot ft500) and rode that until it broke and wasnt worth fixing anymore (about a month ago). Today i finalized the purchase of my new bike and couldnt be happier.

Now the bike-
It is a 1985 fj1100
-40000 miles
-big bore kit to 1240cc
-custom forward controls, needs 1" longer pegs
-softail rear fender
-stock tank cut in half with a new bottom welded on
-stock forward fairing cut in half
-New whitewall rear tire arrives on thursday
-and i need to order new clutch plates and springs b.c. it slips at over 5k =[
I think thats all the interesting stuff but if i think of more ill post it

I found the bike on craigslist and fell in love with it,i like to be original, i had never seen anything like it before so i had to have it, i got it for $2000 which i think is a pretty fair price (and all i could afford being a broke college student lol) i really cant wait to start riding this everyday

Welcome to the group Tywedd.

Your quest for individuality has certainly been met with this one!

With regard to the clutch.......you may find that just doubling up of the spring will solve your problem, and save you some expense. Rather than an OEM FJ spring, get an XJR1200/1300 item...... its the same dimensions etc, but cheaper for some reason. This all supposing it has a stock clutch and not an after-market item.

I would also suggest putting a couple of UNI dual-pod filters on the carbs to keep that engine from meeting an early demise.

Randy (Racerrad) here on the group can help you out with both the above items and is right there in CA.

FJZ1 1200 - It'll do me just fine.
Timing has much to do with the success of a rain dance.

Thank you for the advice i will be sure to give that a shot. I do believe the clutch is stock so that should work out perfectly!

Welcome tywedd,  :drinks:

there are plenty of 1100 guys here, and some even know what they are talking about.

When all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail.

Hi tywedd,

I can honestly say I've never  seen a set up like that on a FJ before.  Very original, i like that. I know you'll be happy with the power.  Although I know myself I'd miss hooking my boots over the passenger pegs and stretching out on the highway.

P.S. Yes the seat has gotta go...
