Stearing Head Bearings

Looking at doing the steering head bearings. Seem to be getting a knock out of the front end when hitting small bumps at low speed. When I pull into my driveway mostly.
Can these be bought from aftermarket or are these a dealer only item? Any one know the bearing number/size? I know they are tough to get out, but its one item on the list that has never been done. Its time.

I noted a similar clunking when entering driveways, etc.  While doing the front-end upgrade to YZF parts, I inspected all the removed parts, hoping to find something obvious.  Head bearings all OK & tight.  The only thing I found was the fork legs were/are a bit sloppy where the upper & lower tubes meet.  I suspect the bushings are worn in the legs.  I never changed 'em out in 25,000+ mi.  

For the record, there are new head bearings & new the legs have new fork bushings and there is no more clunking from the front end.

Bearing Numbers are:

Steering Stem bearings & lower seal
32006JR (remove seal),  32005X, '79 GL1000 seal  Honda P/N 53214-371-010

The seal for the lower bearing is not sold separately by Yamaha.  The Honda part fits fine.

         I have the steering head bearing kit, which includes the seal, in stock. Shoot me an email if you want me to ship them out on Monday.

Check the front fender... last time I heard a clunk from the front end, both side tabs were broken and the top ones were cracked and flexing.  

And there are plenty of broken fender tabs on this board..... I think anyone that has been around awhile has at least one broken front fender.

I have never adjusted or lubed them since I have had the bike.(since 06) They always seemed fine. Should have looked at them closer a couple of years ago when I had the fairing off.

New bushings etc in fork legs, and no cracks in fender. Just put a new front half of fender on this summer.

Had the EXACT same problem.  Fixed it this weekend.  It was nothing more that the twin stem nuts being too loose.  I first noticed it by putting the bike on the center stand and then grabbing hold of the front rim and pushed back on it.  I was shifting about 1/4 inch at the rim.  I removed the tripple-tree and then tightend the twin stem nuts until I had a slight drag, then backed off 1/4 turn and locked the second one.  After assembly all was good.  It even cut down on the bike wanting to wander on the road because it wasn't so loose.  

Anyhow, that was my case.  Not to say yours is the same, but it's worth a check.
