engine guard / frame sliders

Does or has anyone used an FJ engine guard?  Do they protect the fairing well?  My girlfriend has a 92 that seems to fall over alot when she is on it.  I want to protect the plastic bits and her ankles too.  I also thought about getting a bracket made for some frame sliders.  The bracket would attach at the two upper frame bolts just below the upper fairing.  Any comments or experiences to share?

Thanks for the input.  Are there any pictures of the engine guard on a 91,92,93 bike on the fjowners site?  I have seen a few of the 89 and older fj's pictured with the guard but it appears to be an older style guard.  Thanks!

Frano..... I have the same rentec engine guards and can vouch for them.

I installed then one Thursday evening and crashed the bike the next Sunday.........not a scratch on the engine and while dented, the guards are repaired/repainted and still doing their job. I can't say the plastics fared so well however.

A couple days ago I had a slight scare going into a left turn too hot. I came home and ordered these:



I'm only going to use the sliders themselves installing them at the forward engine mount position. I will have to get a replacement bolt (the long one that goes all the way through in front of the engine). I got them through D2moto.com.

Ok, it wasn't "A LOT", it was twice.

I can vouch for their effectiveness.  The bike took a little slide down the highway.  Picked it up and rode it home.
