CBR 600 mirror issues on 1987 model

Hi Guys,

Since the Emgo universal mirrors seemingly could not be adapted to work well on my 87, I got a nice pair of OEM CBR600 mirrors since several folks had said they worked well.  On my bike however they seem to work "sort of".  The problem is that while they fit perfectly in the bases with no problem other than making a small shim they can't be adjusted to have the bottom parallel to the to the road.  They look reasonably OK when looking at the bike and provide a good view to the rear, but the lower edge is 27 degrees up from horizontal.  From the riding position the mirrors have a distinctly "rabbit ear" look to them.
The stalks appear to be some sort of composite and if there is a way to bend them that would solve the problem but I'm not desperate enough to try that yet. It doesn't seem practical to shim the inner edge of the mounting brackets up since the holes in them would have to be greatly wallowed out and the boot would fit poorly, So, I'm out of ideas at the moment.
Is there anyone out there who has any experience with this issue who can give me some idea of where I'm messing up or is it just that all the folks who have done the switch have later model bikes with fairings that are more close to vertical under the mirror bracket? One other possibility, although they look like the pictures I've seen of CBR 600 mirrors and the seller said they are of a 2002, could it be that they are not the right ones?

Thanks in Advance,

DR.Jay

Take some pictures of the mirrors and issues you are having. Lots of cleaver minds here to figure out the problems. Did you grind any of the base for the new stalk to fit? I want to see this work for my 86' so its safe to say I have a selfish personal interest in helping you get the CBR mirrors looking properly mounted.
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

i tried to fit some of these to mine, an 87 and just did not quite work i did just buy a very cheap aftermarket set just to try
and ending up snapping them trying to twist them that last little bit to fit properly!! all the ones i have seen are one the later
models.
