I already posted this once but It seems to have disappeared so maybe someone is slapping me for posting in the wrong section, who knows. My problem is this. I came back from a ride with my daughter and just before we got back home my front brake started to fade, by the time I got up the driveway I had nothing. No leaks, fluid is clean and at proper level, the brakes have been good until this point. I have never seen a master cylinder work one minute then the next there is nothing. So I figure as most the piston and or rubber cups have failed in the front master. Has anyone had this happen to there FJ, One minute its all good then the next is front brake failure, am I missing something?   Donnie

the logical conclusion would be m/c piston seal failure, providing what's happening is the lever is just pulling to the bar without pressurising, but some fluid should probably leak out around the exposed lever/cam/piston plunger area of the m/c to confirm, otherwise, yeah, are we missing something.

How are the fork seals?  When they leak it may not always be that obvious, but they will drip right onto the calipers/pads.

I posted first in the General Discussions board and did not see it there on the first page but I do suck with computers and still do not really know what I am doing and learning how to guide through it. I want to say thanks to all who read this and who have helped me out with there wisdom since of have come here. Sudden failure of front MC with no fluid loss must be rare and of coarse it would happen to me.

One thing i noticed On my clutch M/C was that it had been leaking into the dust boot but not out of the dust boot onto the bike. Once I disturbed the dust boot and saw the leak the M/C completely quit working and it had been fine up to that point. I had one hell of a time with that system bleeding and what not, to say the least they're cantankerous. Pull the M/C and test it on the bench and see if it builds any pressure with your finger over the outlet ( you'll need to purge it a bit to get pressure on your finger) If you had a problem with the calipers or lines I'd say they would be leaking unless they just both froze up at the same time which is pretty much impossible.
