I can tell upon close inspection that the carbs have most likely never been off the bike. no "tracks". And the air adjustment only responds with one carb of the 4.

If the carbs truly have NEVER been off the bike, then I'm pretty sure the air-adjustment screws would have likely been capped-off.  The first time you screw with it, you must remove these caps/ covers (kind of like a hymen -just saying)

Dan
You are right about the caps off. Can you pull the caps with out pulling the carbs off? I have on other bikes. The rest of the screws that I can see show no marks of ever being taken off. I pulled one of the diaphams off and determined that it still had the aluminum (?) needle in it. And you can tell which one I pulled off :). Ordered new SS screws and complete kits from RPM. Winter project. Being an old aircraft mech I am use to pretty detailed inspections and trying to find the cause of a problem not just fix it. Not sure.  Anyone?

Live hardy, or go home.

OOPS, guess I was unclear at the beginning.  :dash2:
The carbs have not been off the bike since I originally installed them last Thursday, New out of the Box from Randy as stated at the beginning. Note the reference to jetting changes etc. Caps have been drilled out and removed.

I am looking for Metric feeler gauges. All I find start at .05 mm then jump in .05mm increments. Looking for .05 to .25 in .01 increments, go no go would be nice but I do not want to be too picky.

Yep..... Use some masking tape as a limiter so you don't drill into the adjuster screw, run a sheet metal screw into the hole and pull.

Another tip I recently read, for the philips-head screws.... Grind a flat onto the tip of the screwdriver so it'll bottom in the Japanese Industrial Standard screws.  I haven't tried it yet....

Ok, I got the shim set and tool, corrected that problem.

Side note, Powersports Yamaha/Suzuki, the closest dealer in N Las Vegas on Craig Rd was unwilling and rude when I asked about exchanging 2 shims! The guy said, "We don't do that here." So I went to the back service counter and asked. They offered to take me back to parts department to order one.

Powersports Yamaha, Kawasaki, Honda people went into the service department and looked but said they could not find any in this diameter. Yamaha & Honda both use this I said. They said they do very few valve adjustments. These are the people that want to sell me a new bike. Not these dealers indeed. We have a lil guy aftermarket mainly off road shop called "Sam's Cycles", he had a box of shims and exchanged 2 shims at no cost. Said see you next time Mike. Wish he sold bikes, but I digress.

So now valves correctly set. Synced carbs above idle, this was more difficult then expected getting a steady 2000 plus idle. This finished, at 1100 rpm carbs are lil off so I spent 45 minutes getting them where I felt good.

Retesting for low ldle and it's still there. Argh, had enough for now, need some curve therapy, heading out to Red Rock loop to relax before getting after it again this morning.

Just a thought, but have you tried swapping over the pick-up coils and/or igniter box from the other bike?
I know you've got an 1100 and a 1200 but the parts swap and it just might give some indication.
I'm only guessing but you never know.

After straightening out a few curves and 250 miles some of which was at 140 plus MPH on the 1100 I feel much better. Back to the 1200, rechecked compression and 3 cylinders came up. Not sure how accurate my gauge is since I had 175 on 1 & 4, 3 was 170 & 2 was still low at 130. I thought 165 was max on a new engine. Now it cranks like it has a weak hole. Going to run it over the weekend and recheck valves again next week. Not as rough as before but still feeling the problem. I would not have thought the valves would tighten up this much.

I did the relay mod for coils when I was finished with everything.
