Leaking Petcock...

Hey does anyone have a line on a replacement petcock for my "87". I don't believe that the current petcock can be rebuilt... when i took it apart to inspect it i noticed that the plunger is very corroded at the end and due to this cannot make a tight seal. The petcock is dripping gas out of the bottom through a hole with a small brass screen in it. It doesn't pour out but slowly drips, faster when it's full. Any ideas or help that anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Hey Josh,
Go to this site and enter your bike info and look up the Yamaha part # for your petcock
http://www.yamaha-motor.com/sport/parts/home.aspx
Then try Zanotti's to see if they have, or can get a Yamaha oem replacement.

If no go, try eBay, search motorcycle parts under FJ1200. These come up from time to time.

If not, perhaps one of the fine folks here on the forum have one they can send you.

PS; Fine looking stable of bikes you have there laddie.
I had one of those Honda CB550's, a cool bike, bulletproof.
Your CB350 four is a collector's item, you know that right? I've always wanted one of those.

Thank you very much! Yes the 550 was my first street bike, it's getting a complete disassemble and clean this winter... it's a great bike. It needs a little freshening up but it's still in great condition. The 350 is a great little bike too, i picked it up really (REALLY) cheap. It hadn't been run in 23 years but looked like it had been sitting in a museum, absolutely perfect shape, only had 13k on it. Took my dad and i about a month to locate a petcock and a carb rebuild kit but once we bolted everything back up it fired right up. I have to find a suitable replacement for the stock exhausts now though, after 2 yrs of riding it the joint at the header/muffler is rotting out on all but one of them. Common prob with these bikes. Makes me sick b/c i like the 4into4 look but they are all but impossible to find. Thanks again for your help!!

So to update.... thanks Pat! I was able to find the part # and find listings for replacement parts online. Imagine my shock when i found the MSRP for a NOS petcock and it was $275.00!!!! I found several on E-Bay listed for 199.95 but thats the cheapest i came across... until i stopped searching by part # and switched to part name. I found a NOS petcock listed under the wrong part # but it was for an 86-87. Apparently the seller had bought a large lot of NOS Yamaha parts and was selling them w/o reserve. So i ended up stealing it at the last minute for $41.00   :yahoo: Bolted up the new fuel cock and all is well now. Thanks for the help guys!!
