Would never bring the FJ to such a injustice as to trasport it in a TIN top.. :diablo:

You never heard of riding you bike.... :good:
Dogbreath, it's like riding from Cairns to Coffs but on a road that's like the M1 between Brisbane and the Goldy.
It's dead boring, straight as only the Seppos can make it and riddled with Cops.
Even at 140 KPH,the novelty wore off long ago.
Being able to drive to Nthn C.A in one hit and arrive pretty relaxed gives another full day for riding the good roads up there.

I've often been asked, 'What do you old folks do now that you're retired'?

"Well. I'm fortunate to have a chemical engineering background, and one of the things I enjoy most is turning beer, wine, Scotch, and margaritas into urine."

Ah what the hell, I might as well put my bit in and get yelled at as well. Marsh I can understand what Richard is saying about just ride there, we don,t know how long you have been doing this that's for sure but the biggest thing I love about my FJ is  - riding it . As one of my best friends told me when I first started riding and touring ( 34 years ago ), riding is not all about the destination, its about getting there as well. I have done plenty of straight road boring hwy miles and I haven't got one of those steel arses, but I just love riding my bike, anywhere, and for me it is still about how you get there as well. It's a pity you probably can't take more time to get there and enjoy everything about your excellent rallies over there, from when you leave home on your bike to when you ride back in your driveway. I just wish we had something like this in Oz. Anyway i hope you have a great time and the weather is good to you, and you all have a safe trip.   Colin

P.S.  please don't yell back to much   :flag_of_truce: :empathy3:

... opinions are sought regarding transporting two bikes ...

kind of hard to ride TWO at the same time - transporting them sounds kind of smart in this case.

Klavdy

Col,
I live in Aus and go to Seppostan for the riding.
The roads are fantastic compared to ours, but the Freeways & Interstates suck.
Really, they suck.
Great for getting from A to B,that's what they are for,not pleasure riding.
Grinding on a flat, straight, multi lane Freeway through featureless desert for 8-10 hours a day for two days and more is no joy.
You flat spot your tyres and get the shits, it's uncomfortable, you're not able to move around and your hands feel like concrete because you sit at about 140KMH till the tank runs dry.

I'll have some Video up soon, give you a taste of what the roads are like and throw in some of the Freeway's just for you.
Fluffy, Pat & I have done thousands and thousands of miles over there getting to& from Rallies, trust us when we say there is no open road romance on the Interstates riding a bike.
It is not at all thrilling.

No trailers coz C.A has that stupid 55 MPH law re trailer

It sucks slabbing back after a Rally.
Being able to smoke Cigars, drink hard liquor and push people off the Freeways would be good.

That is one of the reason I got my truck so I would not have do tow a trailer to the rally and do 55mph. I got my first ticket last year coming back from the WCR pulling my trailer...67mph coming down from the grapevine.   I drive because I like getting there & back in one shot and being worn out from 10+ hours on the bike.

Get the truck you will not be able to get 2 FJ's in a Ford van... even the truck maybe pushing it. Someone mention a stake-bed that would be the best choice, two bikes easy maybe even 3 or 4 depending on the size.

side note: Is there a location yet??

Klavdy

Yep, location is up in that Bigfoot Triangle between Red Bluff, Redding and Weaverville.
Actual site is yet to be determined, there's some pretty interesting alternatives that are being investigated.
Hmmmm, might start a new thread on them, whaddya reckon?
