So you may have read.I bought a 92. Has 7400mi on. The guy I bought it from replaced everything. Whether it needed it or not. I mean
Everything. He had a brand new Vance n Hines exhaust. Looked like it just came outta the box. As well as a brand new set of flatslides. They didn't even have fingerprints on them. He had all the receipts to prove it. When I  went to check it out. He started it right up. Left it idle. Reved it a couple of times. Sounded great. No strange noises. Not smoking at all. When I first walked up to it I checked it was stone cold. I was walking around it checking it out. He gave it another little rev. And all of sudden gas started running out of the one carb. He freaked out. Shut it off. And started apologizing. Said. I'll fix it and you can come back next week if you still want it. I was going down by my brother's in okc to help him build his house. So I wouldn't be back for over 2 weeks. And it was on the other side of the state. So we decided on a price. He showed me the other 4 bikes he had. And a mint 70s dodge pickup. By the time we got back to finalizing the deal he said I'll cut $200 off. Because I feel bad. I was planning on putting the flatslides on my 1350r anyway. And he had the original fuel pump stock carbs that he said. He had completely rebuilt. Including an RPM stainless bolt kit. He had all the original jets and stuff in box with the carbs. So I decided to put the stock carbs on. And didn't even get it going. And gas started flowing out of one of the  stock carbs. Turned out to be the same carb as the one flatslide. Middle right one. So I pulled the float needle and sprayed it out good. Put it back on. He replaced everything on that bike but the fuel lines???
So I replaced them. It's running great now. But when I came back from riding it. The lights won't shut off. Headlight front marker/tun signals and  the  tail light won't shut off. I had to disconnect the battery. Turn signals brake light all work just can't get the running lights to shut off.
So since I'm terrible at fixing electrical problems.
Does anyone have any idea what is causing this.

The head lights and signal lights are on seperate fuses. The fuses are powered when you turn the key switch on by the brown wire being connected to the red wire from the main fuse. It sounds like the key switch is bad and not disconnecting the power to the brown wire that feeds the fuses when you turn the key off. If that is the case then the ignition fuse should still be energized also and you should be able to start the bike with the key off .

Thanks much. I kinda thought I should check that. But this confirms it. Like I said I have no clue when it comes to electrical problems.

Hi Dan, sorry for the late reply, I just got back into town.
There are 3 key settings on our FJ's.
From Left to right...
1) Parking (left)
-fork lock-
2) Off (center)
3) On (right)

In certain countries, when parked at the curb at night, they require parking lights be left on, typically they are indicator lights and back tail light. (Never the headlight)

From the (center) off position get to the parking lights you have to turn your forks to the left, then push down on the key lock and turn the key to the left to engage the fork lock...then rotate the key one more position to the left and the parking lights should come on.

Could you be on that parking light key setting?

Cheers amigo

Pat.

Thanks Pat. No I checked that. The first ride I took my 86 after I resurrected it. Was a ride around lake Michigan. At the hotel somehow I put it in the parking position. Before heading into the motel room and didn't notice. Got up to a completely flat Shorai battery. One of the first ones I ever owned. Push started it in the parking lot. Rode it for 30 miles or so and recharged it. It was never as strong after that. But still way better than a lead acid. It finally died last spring. I don't know how long that was. I bought it shortly after I joined here. Just looked when I joined would make it around 12 years old.  After draining it  dead when I first got it. The  one I put in my raptor 700. Was put in in 2010. Had sat outside. For a couple years. After I crashed /totaled it.  Before having the frame straightened. Then sat for over 2 years in storage while building my house.  Never even disconnected it. Still starts the raptor like it's  brand new. Great batteries.

Anyway. I  appreciate any help I can get. Didn't get a chance to take the ignition switch apart this morning. But hope to tomorrow.

Dan, from 91 onwards, FJ's in many markets had headlights that were permanently on. I have the right side switchgear for a 92 (3XW) FJ and it doesn't have the 3 position light switch that my 89 (3CV's) or my 86 (1TX) have.

Does your right switchgear have the headlight selector switch?

Well this morning I took the ignition switch off and took it apart. Looked brand new inside. Same with handle bar switches. No corrosion. No sign of any shorts no frayed crossed up wires. The front marker/turn signals stay on along with the tail light. The only way I can get them to go off is to disconnect the battery. Bike doesn't start without turning the ignition to on. Headlight comes on when I turn it to on. The brake light lights up when you hit the brakes turn signals work. Just can't get the markers to turn off without disconnecting the battery.???
