I seem to remember that the clutch internals are the same. Others will verify.
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

Looking at partsfish.com -

Looks like steels and small frictions have same parts numbers for FJ1200, FJR1300, and maybe first gen R1.  Main frictions seem to be different parts numbers between FJR and FJ - with FJ matching R1 frictions.

Where are you located?

First suggestion - order from RPM

Second suggestion - if that isn't feasible due to foreign shipping and import issues, order from nearest Yamaha dealer.

With VERY FEW exceptions, factory clutch discs are far superior to ANY aftermarket discs - especially frictions.   This is the 40th anniversary of the FJ1100 - most of these bikes are on their original clutch still - in most cases a stock replacement will last past your estate sale ...

I concur with FJ1289. The factory stock frictions are great and durable. My modified engine didn't wear the factory frictions out in just over 100,000 miles. That was with me abusing the clutch on occasion, such as doing 5th gear starts, i.e. slipping the clutch until going fast enough for full engagement without stalling. The first time I did it was unplanned. After I figured out that it works I'd do it occasionally, just because I could. So, I can attest to the durability of the stock clutch. My rebuilt engine has a new set of friction discs, because the engine was getting worked on. It has a bit more grunt now and still will start in 5th, if needed. ;^)

Before I rebuilt my clutch my ITX would slip when on the boiler but if I rode the bike normal for about 30 mins and put some heat into it the clutch would not slip. Personally for me it was too hard to wait the 30 mins before boiler activation so I rebuilt the clutch. My black bird is the same, it has to warm up and once warm it does not slip. Forced to be patient for 30 mins is harder then it sounds.
