Hey guys, I recently made a good score on a nice '86 FJ after a lot of looking. One of the small problems it has is that the last owner bumped the headlamp into something, breaking the right side plastic mount tab, and bending both of the metal tabs on the mounting frame.

So I need to remove the fairing to sort all this out. I can normally figure these things out by looking, but I can't figure out how to remove the fairing to get to the subframe that the light mounts to. Anybody have some tips on doing this? Seems like it should be simple but.....

ok, ready set go.

remove the side scoops.
remove the gas tank.
remove the rear view mirrors.
remove inner faring panels next to gas tank.(don't loose the choke screw)
remove windscreen.
remove instrument cluster cover.
disconnect turn signals.
now remove the two bolts from the headlight mount. there is one on each side accessible from the inside of the faring with a extension.
the faring can now be removed. the two bolts are all that holds the headlight in place so it can fall out with the faring ,be careful as to not drop it.

there ya go.
have fun.

...according to google, today is Rube Goldberg's birthday -- very appropriate for removing the later model fairings!
