Easy tech tip for heavy springs

I had to put a much heavier spring on my Tenere 7 kick stand.  The stocker was wimpy and allowed to stand to bang around.  Anyways, the new spring was so heavy as to be a danger if standard techniques were to be used.  So I locked one end in the vise and slowly bent the spring one way and the other and each time slipped a large washer in the coil gaps.  When each gap had a washer in it the spring was now long enough to just place on the stand lugs while in the up position.  Lowering the stand to the down position streched the spring enough so that all the washers just fell out.  This would work on the notorious center stand spring on the FJ as well.

Winnah here, folks, we have a WINNER!
Good post.

Cheers,

P.S. Life is too short, and health is too valuable, to ride on cheap parade-duty tires.

Good one!  Now if there was an easy way to deal with shock springs ...

I'm looking at the T-7's, I like their simplicity, light weight,  they seem to be good value, except I've got to add $3k to the sticker for some Kineo's.....No more tubes for me....I've past my tube days.

In the middle of July Kurt (yamaha fj rider) and I are going to Fred's Pike's Peak run and Kurt will be riding his T-7, so I'll get a chance to try one out....

Thanks Jack for the tip...

I wouldn't call the T7 "light".  Since it carries its weight up high it is a hand full when pushing around in the barn.  It is surprising nimble which was my first big take away.  At 6' tall I just fit on it, I had though about a taller seat but no way.  It kind of reminds me of my RZ350 in the way it needs to shifted so much.  In 1st gear it's a tractor just don't expect to go much faster than walking speed (OK, maybe jogging speed)...
