Hi All

Been a while since I posted anything.

In a case of "I can't help myself", I bought another basket case FJ. This one is a 3/84 1100 that came disassembled, but the price was right ($500), and it came with 2 main fairings. It was missing parts, but with help from other FJ friends and Ebay, the list of missing bits is getting shorter.

First order was to see if the motor was any good.
With the 1200 motor in Sparkles (my other 84 FJ, with lots of modditis attachments) not working due to the start clutch going again (that a whole other project - stay tuned), I decided to put this unknown hunk of metal into her.

After checking valve clearances, chaining oil and filters, plugs etc, the time had come........and the engine is goooood. :yahoo:

The motor sounds good, with no rattles, and pulls well, but it does have the 1100 second gear jump. This will be fixed at a later date.

So with confirmation that I have a viable heart for the bike, I did a mockup assembly of the bike to see exactly what was missing and what needed replacing. I have set a budget of $3500 for this bike ( about what a specimen would cost in good running condition ). I plan on keeping it mostly stock, but it will need a new rear shock, new (secondhand) forks and had a heap of missing bolts, most of which I have sourced. The hardest part to fine is a "new" 84/85 fuel tank and the fairing air ducts.

I have stripped and repainted the frame and have it in basically rolling condition now. And I have some parts (84 front end and reupholstered seat) to pick up from a mate. He may have some other bits for the bike too.

So for now I have the new bikes motor in sparkles, while her motor gets a rebuild, and a second half-built FJ sitting in my shed. Pictures and more to come. Stay tuned.
Might put in some YouTube links
